what exactly does grinding feel/sound like? My guess is a very rough shift making some horrible sound? I'm trying to see if I have the problem since I have an 04.. and I currently find that shifting is not smooth.. it takes a bit of an effort sometimes but not all the time. It doesnt make any crazy grinding noise though so maybe i'm just paranoid?

grinding noise is just that...kinda sounds like a fruit juicer. Shifting is known to be a little rough or notchy, but grinding you can tell. You can always just go to the dealer and tell them there seems to be a problem with your tranny, but chances are they will say it's normal.
BTW...I have an appointment for Tuesday.

Regarding the warranty, does the warranty automatically transfer when you purchase from a private seller or is there an application or paperwork to fill out? I am thinking about purchasing from a private party and this is the first time I may purchase a car within a warranty period and was wondering what the procedure is if anyone could tell me. Thanks in advance

Just got my car back from the dealer, First they said it was the throw out bearing in third and when they went to fix that they saw there was a piece of the tranny bearing missing, so i got a new tranny. Now I got a few questions for you guys who had their tranny replaced:
1) How could you tell if they replaced it with a dual synchro tranny?
2) Why is 5th and 6th gear so much closer to 3rd and 4th, I dont have to push the shifter all the way to the right anymore, just about a half inch to the right of 3rd and 4th, is this normal or there has to be an adjustment made? If I push it all the way to the right as I am shifting it feels like it is hitting somthing.
3) I still get a notchy feel in third, no sound but normal driving I feel it on my hand, they said to wait about 500 miles before I beat on it, so I cant give it the high RPM test yet, but I will when it hits 500. Is the notchiness normal, and I shouldnt worry cause there is no sound?
BTW, I had to get the clutched replaced which wasnt under warranty, also maybe this is the reason for question #2, I have never had a Manual car with brand new clutch and Tranny before.
Thanks

How many miles? and you had to get a new clutch! I think somebody stuck it to you!
Did they give you the orig. clutch back. If so, please take a picture so we can see. I bet they didn't even let you look at it.
gd dealerships! (did I jump the gun or what on that reply)

Question, does anybody know if there has been a TSB on the tranny issue? That seems to be the only way I can get my dealership to do anything i.e. axle clicking. I had to print out the TSB and take it to them to show them there was actually an issue with it. Keep in mind it was posted on this forum 3 months or so before I took it in. Mine seems to have the problem going into second more so than third (under hard acceleration).

They didnt give me the orig. clutch back, but I can tell you, I grinded 3rd 2 nights before i brought the car in and with the windows open, I think I was lucky I didnt blow the tranny right there. There was def. something up with the clutch cause it was a noticeable amount higher then it was when i bought the car in january. I feel better that everything is brand new rather then getting a new tranny with a worn clutch, and after grinding like that for the couple of thousand miles I put on it , who knew if the owner before me had a problem, the clutch was prob missing teeth cause when it grinded it sounded really bad. I got 34,300 miles on the car, I dont think they stuck it to me cause if they wanted to they could have just repleced the third gear throw out bearing and left the messed up tranny in there, a throw out bearing would have cost them less money and time.

I was talkin to two other nissan drivers (one G35 and one 350Z 04 and 03 models) and BOTH had theirs replaced! One at 10K and the other at like 6K miles!
After three years, I would have hoped that Nissan would have alleviated this problem at the factory! I guess I'll be taking the car in during Christmas break!

They've done 8 revisions of the tranny so far. Apparently the 8th time is the charm for them.
