Does 6MT really outperforms by such a wide margin???

I think we've established that the tranny is the same, it functions in the same way, and the difference in performance between a 5AT and a 6MT is going to be largely dependent on the driver.
My best time was 14.214 @ 99.02mph NA.
Just went to the track for the first time with FI and the same day I bought 2 new Toyo T1R's for the rears. I ran a 13.5 @ 109mph. I couldn't hook up worth a krap. I had high 2.2 and low 2.3 60' times.
Caught wheel through 2nd gear and still hit 109mph. The temps were 80 degrees, humidity (well there was a hurricane off the coast so it was high), it rained that day so the track wasn't super dry, etc....
Can't wait to break these tires in and drop some of the junk in the trunk. I ran with about 200 pounds of stuff in the trunk and back seat too. Hoping to break into the high 12's on the right night with the right conditions. :fingers crossed:
BTW, stock clutch seems to be holding up rather nicely.

Are you guys sure that you can select 2nd gear from a stop in the sedan? Because when I drive those loaners, you can put the car in whatever "gear" you want, but it's only a top gear selector. So if your dash reads M3, it's just that your top gear would be 3rd, but you still start in 1st.
The only AT i've ever seen that let's you start from 0mph in 2nd is the wife's VW SUV. My 5AT G will indicate the top gear selection but select lower gears at will. It will not start from 2nd.
I don't think throwing up times will mean much. 14.2 at 99 is great nonetheless but mixing/models/days/mods/year will get you nowhere in comparisons.
I enjoy bashing the 6MT owners but in mags they win the power war when comparing the same magazine's MT and AT comparisons for the same model. I've just never seen it at the track. What makes this more interesting is that the sedans aspire to have the coupe's HP and the AT drivers aspire to have the MT drivetrain loss and clutchable power - even if they won't admit it.
And we all in previous threads in previous years had it out with the 350Z guys as we all, if even for a second or two, wished to compare favorably to thier times and power numbers. So what makes it all the more fun at the track that I'm supposed to have gone to before I can argue my point, is walking by 350's like I did in June at Englishtown.
I may have the old school '03 and a granny tranny in a old man sedan, but my $1300-$1400 in mods have me right there competing with and usually pulling very nicely on the comparable supposedly already higher HP Z and G coupe 6MT. The only car that I have a real problem with is the NA Z's that with a CAI and better than stock radials can run 13.5 @ 104 such as they did at ATCO. That's a driver a that can drive!
You guys have what I wish I had, a clutch, but I am not giving up a thing at the track. Neff I shan't compete with you as you're in another league..enjoy the whoosh.

Seriously, though - I had the 6MT, they are nice, and fun, but a "superior machine" they are not.
Listen folks, I am not ragging on the 6MT or trying to justify getting an At this time around. Had I wanted the MT again I'd have bought it. What i am saying is they are different, and neither is substantially better. The idea that the MT some how superior technology is kind of laughable.

i've seen stock 05s clock in at 14 flat
and g's performing better after they're broken in...isn't that ovbious?
most machines perform better after they're broken in.
the 5at has more items that need to be broken in such as the tranny (well more so than the 6mt)
but again, how does this have anything to do with what were talking about
