Mobil1 diff and trany fluid change???
I am taking my 6mt to the dealer in the next couple of days to have the diff and trany fluids changed. I am thinking about buying Mobil 1 and bringing the fluids with me. Is this a good idea? What are the #’s for the fluids I need? Will this void the warranty in any way seeing as this is synthetic fluid? Is there anything else I should be aware of? I did a search on this but I am at work right now and didn’t see any clear answers. Thanks all for your time.

Do a search on the boards and you will find a ton of info on this.. After doing my research i settle with changing my diff at 6000, and at the same time started synthetic with the engine oil. I went mobile 1 with the engine oil and Amsoil with the diff fluid. I didn't change my tranny fluid yet. After reading on the boards it doesn't seem to need it till after 12 - 20k. I've been reading bad things about synthetic in the tranny, so i will stick to what nissan reccomends, and go with the stuff they give you. I've discussed this a lot with the car enthusiasts at work. Mostly domestic and DSM guys, and a few Audi and BMW guys, and they pretty much say the same, be careful using synthetic in your transmission.
On a side note, when i changed my diff fluid, it was dirty as hell.. a lot of shavings on the magnet. It doesnt cost much to change.. Like 20 or 30 dollars in fluid if you want to do it yourself. It wasnt hard at all, and i plan on changing it again at around 12-15k just to see the difference in wear after breaking and using synthetic.

i just changed the transmission oil on my car recently. nissan recommends sae 75w-85 or 75w-90. i put in redline 75w-90. i only notice a small improvement in shifts for 1 and 2. all other gears feel the same. but i really threw in the synthetic for the winter months ahead... as that's when i just can't seem to get the car into 1st on cold morning start-up's. hopefully i'll see a larger improvement then.
^^what's the deal with this quote? what have u read and where? details man... your starting to freak me out. i owned a couple vette's before and also used redline in them... so did most vette enthusiasts and i never ever had a problem with the cars.

I changed my diff and tranny oil out a while back. At first I used royal purple in both. after a couple days I found out that rp wasn't good to have in the MT because it's too slippery. I would get grinding when shifting from 1st to 2nd. I changed it out to redline oil and haven't had a problem since. By the way, don't reuse the crush washers. Make sure the dealer doesn't either. Mine did then tried to lie about it.

I used synthetic tranny fluid in my honda before and it was fine. In fact it was better in cold starts and general all around driving. Smoother response and no jerks.
I used AMSOIL, but it was compatible to honda fluid so it didnt give me any issues.
But now that you remind me i think i should change the DIFF fluid as well. I got 30k on one car and 7k on the other. Didnt know it was to the point where you get metal shavings in there

the copper washers on the 14mm? if its that then you dont need to change it on every oil change.. just like every half a year if u want or osmething.. copper washers wont go bad for a LONG while..
edit: you guys wana use some really good oil check out the stuff that bikers use.. those are some expensive ****.. lol but you can use any oil you want as long as you change it alot.. if you dont want to take chances spend the extra dollars and go get Mobil1, Amsoil, Castrol is a good brand lotta guys use, Royal Purple IMO not worth the price.. its ratings arnt that great... infact i think they were below mobil, cast, and amsoil...
one more edit.. you can use an oil filter off the 99 Nissan Maxima.. its the same diameter but bigger by about a quarter-to half an inch.. and change your filters with every oil change! and use 5w-30 or 10w-30 depending on ur area

it will be imposible for the dealer to prove what tranny fluid you are using.
for example with AT you can never get all of it out unless you do a flush. But from what i heard flush is not always good.
MT you will still have residue oil left over. So in reality you just mixing old and new together.
