Auto trans coupe owners - question about manual shift mode
Auto trans coupe owners - question about manual shift mode
When you manually shift from 2nd to 3rd but aren't flooring it, just casual driving, do you find that 3rd grabs very hard and fast and shocks the drivetrain rather abruptly?
It seems like unless I either run it up past ~4k or let off the gas pedal just before shifting to 3rd, it bangs into gear.
Now that's nice for redline runs, but it worries me that using manual mode while just driving around casually could be stressing the clutchpack b/w 2nd and 3rd or the drive shaft by the jarring way it performs that shift.

Huh, I'm surprised it's not consistent. I would expect either everyone's does it or no one else's does it, and that if some people experience it, they would experience it consistently.
I had the dealer look into it last service and they said they checked and the trans fluid was slightly over-full so they drained a little out and said that they often come topped off from the factory.
It still acts the same. I honestly LIKE the idea that it shifts fast and firm 2nd to 3rd but I rarely (literally almost never) redline the car through the gears so to me it's more obnoxious to have it bang 3rd hard and shock the driveline (the whole car hears and feels the THUMP of it happening) when I'm just trying to accelerate normally.
Maybe I should get it looked at again when I go in for the 15k service? "You know, while I'm here and you have me bent over..."
