Ups the RPMs your car runs at... So if you want high RPM cruising speeds go for it!

This subject gets no love for some reason. Every time it comes up it dies straight away. I basically did this on my GSXR750 with great results cuz big deal that I dropped my top speed 10 to 15 mph! I rarely do long highway runs anyway!

$1750 + $25 for misc. items + install puts you well over $2,000 (probably closer to $2300-$2500). That's a mighty pricey mod, which is why many people tend to over look it.

I'm considering it down the road, but since I do so much hwy driving I'm not sure if it would be worth it for me.

If you only do city driving then it would be a fun mod to have for sure!

I have extensive knowledge of this mod - all of your questions should be answered in the thread below. Is your car MT or AT? It's much cheaper to get done in an MT if so.

Are you kidding? That sounds like a pretty good deal to me considering that FI will run you $10-12k and probably only get you about a second and a half if you get it done right.

Um... I don't know where you guys get off saying it's "useless", or that he spent a lot of money to shave off .5 seconds. If you guys would have read the thread, you'll see that he has an AUTO, and that he skipped the 3.5's to go straight to the 3.9'2. And his AUTO, NA g is pulling mid to high 12's. Without any of the potential wear problems of FI.

I'd probably shave 0.5 by adding an aftermarket panel filter.

This is what I think as a worthy investment. Lightweight rims like SSR Comp or Rays TE37, and good tires like S03's, if you'd indulge yourself, DOT R-compound tires like azenis rt615.

-less rotational mass
-improved lateral g-force
-easy cure understeer
-improved gas mileage
-better braking feedback
-better overall track time
-aesthetics

there's probably a few oher things i'm missing. Costs more than an LSD and Ring & Pinion deal, but you get more out of rims and tires, getting more than just shaving 0.5 second from your 0-60mph time. Dont get me wrong, the LSD and gear mod is a pretty sweet mod and a step up from the stock vlsd. imo, an lsd and gear mod wouldnt be my 1st mod.

but if it makes you happy, more power to you.

whats good/bad???? I would like to know if anyone has one as well.
Good: great acceleration
Bad: MPG
Bad: Excessive wear due to higher cruising engine revolutions
Bad: 2\5ths the price of a good FI system, why not save some and go FI?
Bad: another few hundred dollars to install and setup correctly.
Bad: loss of top end speed
Bad: no more warranty

Just a few to start with.

As far as the cost vs FI, that's a labor of love. The gears are install and forget.

Regarding top end speed... if you're limited to roughly 155 by the ecu, or by gearing, and you lose around 10mph, you're still at 145. In my years of driving, I have never gotten my car to 145. This point is just a non-issue for the vast majority of drivers.

And no more warranty? Can you back that up? And this point applies to FI as well....
