sometimes on start up i here this loud squeal that last about a second and then goes away... car drives fine, no problems beyond that..im wondering what it could be?

tighten the belts??? u can actually tighten them>??? i thought they have to be changed

 

It could be the belts are just loose, but sometimes what causes it is too much freon in the A/C.

 

Can you explain that one??

 

yea i can. It probably isnt your problem but i used to work on cars and we used to fill the a/c compresor with freon and if you put to much in it will cause the belt to squeel and not spin properly.

 

Thanks, I've never heard of that one, especially. This must put some kind of extra load on the compressor when the air conditioning is on and the switch kicks it in.

 

Did you just get a crank pulley mod? This is usually something you have to deal with until the new belt wears in.

 

no but i did just get the freon filled cuz i had a mishap with the rad... WEIRDDD

 

I've never heard of the freon being too full causing belts to slip. That's good to know! I have seen bad alternators or a short (extra load on the alt) cause the belts to slip. But it is very rare and only seems to happen to us car audio nuts!
