I would highly recommend you get a beater for the snow and salt. Drove a first gen Rx-7 in the snow in NE OH for a few years and if it wasn't for my great driving ability

i guess 6 speed owners SHOULD get 25mpg on high way but most of us get 15-17 xP and 20 on a good day lol..

My G handles MUCH MUCH MUCH better in the snow than my first gen Rx-7. My 3 hour Indiana Christmas drive home once took 30 hours, a tow, a hotel, and the kindness of others. I'm in NE Ohio now and I've only lost a bit of traction once. I have snow tires on the car. The VDC really keeps you stable on ice.
You need to use winter/snow tires in the winter even when there's no snow. It has to do with the tire temperature and compound. My Potenzas were spinning in second all the time when it was < 32 F.
Personally, this might sound crazy, but I prefer RWD in the snow. If I lose traction on the front, I can still push/pull the car. If I lose traction on the rear, I can still steer. On a FWD car, if you lose the front you lose all control.
I heard this is why cops hated the FWD Impalas.
