New engine. How can I tell if it's correct
I'm having a new engine dropped in my car next week at the dealer due to excessive oil consumption at 11,000 miles. Engine is a crate motor (long block). Here's my question. My car is a 05 MTcoupe 298hp. How do I know they are putting in the right engine and not the 280hp version? Are there any serial # I should check?
I would think that the wiring harness would probably be different for the 298 HP motor and that it definitely requires a different ECU(different redline, different speedlimiter, I'm sure the fuel mapping is different, etc).
I don't think they could very easily stick the 280 HP engine in your car without changing other stuff.

The cam covers are different (smooth) on the 260/280/287hp engine.

My engine was burning a quart every 1000 miles. That's way to much in between oil changes for a brand new vehicle. If the dealer tells you that's normal find another dealer. Do a search under oil consumption, you'll find some threads.
I need to stop visiting this site. The more I visit, the more problems I see with the G35. All year I've been saving and planning to buy this car now I'm afraid they are not reliable cars. In the past I had a G20 and a J30...both reliable cars that gave years of reliable, trouble free driving. What gives with Infiniti? Newer cars should be better, not worse.

i've got 12,000 non-gentle miles on my car and it doesn't burn any oil. the dealer is screwing with you on that IMHO. Ford finds 1qt / 1000 miles acceptable, but this is not a ford.
