dont drive in the snow
dude you wrote "i picked up speed as i started sliding, i want to cry, all those claims that the g does well in the snow are lies, cuz it wasn't really bad out, now look at my baby". I got caught in a similar situation on friday, realized it was snowing and left right away, I got home safe though, but if anything happened it would have been only my fault as it was yours. I knew I was an idiot taking a chance, I can admit it. Since the weekend im running my snow setup. So you might not be an idiot but you did an idiotic thing by taking a chance like that this time of the year. So again don’t blame the car, hopefully you learned your lesson, believe me im not happy your car hit the brick mailbox, it sucks. But again what happened was because you were riding on rubber totally unsuitable for the temperature and snow.
All of you people driving on stock summer rubber in winter are idiots!
Get real @ss hole.
Give me a break, calm down already. No one is mad at the car. It's like you guys are all offended that people say this car drives poorly in the snow. We all knew that when we bought this car. Sheesh.
i had a 10mi commute back home in the morning a couple days ago. it was not pleasant at all on my summers. even the slightest blip on the throttle and the car was halfway to sideways. i'm used to drifting, but sudden instability freaks me out. my apologies to all the suv's for going about 20mph on the straights and 15mph in the corners but it pisses me off when they leave about a car length of space and think it's alright! even with an SUV which weighs half a ton more braking would be even longer in snow/ice! reguarding awd vs rwd, i once saw a clip on TV about this female driver for audi rally back in the late 80s. she said both are equal in terms of corner entry it's just that awd has a much quicker corner exit. it's up to the driver to recognize the limitations of the tires and vehicle and drive within the circle of traction. driving close to the limit would even be considered unsafe. i'm speaking from personal experience. that being said i've seen tommy mackinen put on a demo for hot version videos which pitted up him and his WRC sti vs. some highly known jdm drivers in a stock STI w/ snows. it was no contest! it's interesting to see the rallyman at work behind the wheel in deep snow and ice driving the narrow togue (mountain road) with fast speed! he kept turning the wheel to check for traction. what was more impressive was he did it on oem michilen snow tires which could be purchased off the shelf!

i have my OEM 18" wheels with Pirelli SnowSport 240 tires and my Lexion Type 203 Triple Chrome wheels with Toyo T1-S for the summer... this way i don't have to pay the tire place when i change from winter to summer, just jack up the car and swap em out. i think i paid around $850 for the Pirelli SnowSports
last winter i made the mistake of trying to stick with the Pilot Sports... something i will never attempt again. the difference from a summer tire to my snow tires is night and day... i feel much safer this winter

I have 05 6MT Coupe with 19" Summer Tires.
Warning - DO NOT DRIVE IN SNOW.
Do not even drive on dry cold roads (below 25-30F). The summer tires have no traction.
Its December here in Chicago with freezing temp like about 17F. There was no snow on the roads today. Absolutely dry!! BUT my car was slipping even with LOW acceleration while I was passing a signal.
I am actually getting my snow tires in today. So thats the good news.

I have Blizzaks and snow has not been a problem for me. I drove to MD the day before Thanksgiving and it started snowing heavily and it still was not a problem. If you live in the Northeast I suggest getting a set of snow tires for the winter and a summer set, you won't regret it.
^ Look around. There are definitely better deals around. I picked up my 18" Blizzaks for $520 although they were used for 1000 miles(basically new). The guy who sold it to said that he paid about $860 new.

again I say, IMO
Bottom Line:
Summer tires are for summer
Winter tires are for snow
All Season Radials are good in all seasons except one
I have a Dakota that gets by with ASR's in the snow but I wouldnt want to try in a car this light with 300HP. I like my Blizzaks.

it might help a little bit.
IT WILL NOT HELP ONE BIT! The rubber compound is too hard and the tread design does not get ANY traction. It is literally like ice skating in your car but wearing inline skates instead of blades. GET SNOW TIRES!

I just installed my snow wheels today. Big SNow storm coming to NY/NJ friday, hopefully i can drive with confidence.

Well maybe not idiots, but certainly an accident waiting to happen.
