I have been having problems with third gear lately. When my engine is cold, I usually hear a grinding sound shifting into 3rd. Once it warms up, however, the sound goes away. It's also very random too, sometimes it will happen 2x, sometimes 1x. I push the clutch all the way in as well. It's not my driving as I have been driving stick for years without problem. Any ideas?

 

A common issue........probably syncro ring......warranty.

hmm, mine does it when its cold as well.. I didn't know this was covered under warranty. Has anyone had their tranny replaced, due to this?

and there are many others with prob lems like this who have had trannies replaced

 

hmm, mine is the same but car still under 2k miles. I'll give it until 5k miles and if problem still there then will take it to dealer.

 

does it go away after warming up? might suggest changing to synth tranny fluid. 1st to 2nd shifts are a little rough for me on a cold tranny, but it is smooth as silk after warm-up. i just live with it but do plan on changing to synth @ 30k miles (i'm at ~27k now)

 

after about 7 times complaining about the cold grind i finally got them to replace the tranny and go figure the syncros were damaged...but they didnt swap out till AFTER i paid labor to install my new clutch and flywheel...
