Frozen Windows... What happens ???
Hi guys,
Now i know we all keep our G's in the Garage![Smilie](https://g35driver.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
however there are times when we must leave the safety of our home and park our cars outside.
my question is this... if the windows freeze or have frozen ice on them restricting their movement.... what happens when we try to open the door ???
does the glass break ?
or is the motor strong enough to drop it the 1/2" required to clear the frame ?
thanks for your help

A while back, I had my driver-side window motor die on me, and the glass wouldn't move at all, I opened and closed the door many times without the window dropping that half inch or so... No problems here to report.

The window doesn't need to work to open the door; it just opens when u close it to eliminate the air pressure pop when you slam a door. The last thing I would worry about is the window breaking. I
n normal conditions u have anything to worry about, but I suppose if you had enough freezing rain and it encased your car in a giant ice cube I would say you might have a problem.

the window freezes on me every winter. ive had so many problems with my windows, the dealer has changed the motor on both sides twice, but they still cant figure out the problem. anyway, opening the door is fine, but closing the door, you have to pull the door much harder, and sometimes, the window doesnt fit snug. so its stays open a little.

I've noticed that when the temp is extremely low, my '05s windows retreat only slightly...and only along the rear edge of the window glass. Seems to open and close just fine though.
The auto lower/lift the windows have is to ensure a tight seal to reduce wind noise and vacuum at higher speeds. Vacuum referring to the tendency of a window to be pulled away from the interior of the vehicle when higher speeds reduce air pressure on the outside of the glass. This "pulls" the windows away from the vehicle. Its the Bernoulli Principle at work. Look it up.
