I just got my g35 last week and im close to hitting 500 miles. My friend advised me to get an oil change at around 1000 miles b4 i started riding my G really hard (which of course i will). Is the factory oil good until its recommended to be changed by the dealership? or should i just get top quality aftermarket oil at 1000 miles?

Has anyone gone to a synthetic oil in their G? Is this something to consider?

C_Lawd, Many here have gone to synthetic, including me. It affords a little more protection than regular crude, but by no means necessary.
It's debateable as to when you switch to synthetic too. To my mind after the motor is fully broken in with a few thousand miles on would be best. Having said that, I changed to synthetic at my first change at 2k miles. Others have done it at less mileage.
I personally think changing out the original oil is the way to go, to dump all the metal shavings, but then again, it's prolly fine if you leave the original oil in to first change interval.
Depends how **** you are. G/L

I too was concerned about changing the oil after break in due to possible metal bits from the break in. I called my Infiniti Service Manger and asked about it. They said that used to be important, but with the new manufacturing technology they can get the parts much more exact so much less initial wear and metal bits. For them to decline an early service opportunity and with the way he said it I assume he knows what he's talking about.

Then again, it's only paying $20-$35 a month or two earlier than you will anyhow, so may as well do it if it makes you feel better. So yeah, depends on how **** you are!

Hi:

Here is a link to info on Oil Change at 6mt.net

If you change early, use Penzoil 5-30 which is what Infiniti Dealer says the factory installed. If need be, buy it at your local parts dealer and have Infiniti install it. The Dealership may not carry 5-30 Penzoil.

Buy a Mobile 1 oil filter M1-110. It's a tiny little filter, but well worth the extra money due to it's greater ability to clean the oil.

I have 2,500 miles on my car, and have now changed my oil twice. I will now go on an every 3K mile schedule. You can never change your oil to much. BTW I use a K&N HP1006 oil Filter. The K&N recommended filter is an HP1008. I was unhappy with the size of the stock filter and of the 1008, and spoke to K&N technical support. They told me the 1006, has the same pressure ratings as the smaller filter, and would work fine. The 1008 is about 3/4" longer. I put one in yesterday, and it fit and works fine.

the 1006 is prolly the one used on the Max. I still have some left over from my 2k2 Max and as you say, they're a little bigger and fit just fine. The stock filter is so puny, I don't like it at all.

An old saying from my bike racing days.. Oil's cheaper than metal.

I always change my oil at about 1000 miles in every new and rebuilt engine I've ever run in. I haven't kept many past the 110Kmi point, but they have all performed as expected.

FWIW, I change to synthetic at 5Kmi and change the oil every 5Kmi thereafter.
