Easy to Redline?

Im not sure if this is just with my car but it seems really easy to redline the G35. I have an 06 5AT and when im in second and just punch it the rpms get up there really quick. Is this a good thing or not. Also is it fine if the rpms reach exactly where the red line starts once in a while?? And does anybody feel like this about there car??

i have a sedan but it's all the same, i constantly dont pay attention when i'm punching it and it get's up there real quick. I've redlined a few times, 7000rpm, then the rev limiter kicks in, it's not going to hurt the engine, just dont do it allll the time.

In automatic mode the tranny will also switch it before any harm is done. first gear is quick. You can force it to redline under the manumatic mode the rev limiter will prevent major damage, but as with any manual operation its a good idea to switch just before it hits redline. (I know "master of the obvious")

are you talking in manumatic? i have an 06 g35 coupe 5AT and hell ya in manumatic mode its the same! the car does wonders, its fine if you hit the rev limiter once in a while just dont do it as an everyday or every week thing. But the RPMs def do shoot up quickly. In "D" and not manumatic the car will switch right before it hits redline, the car knows when to switch so if thats what your worried about dont even stress it. But in manumatic mode watch it as there is a lag on upshifting.

Well I havent really tried the manumatic mode that much since I bought it, but I was talking about when I am in "D". The rpms shoot up and a few days agao it was even right there by the redline. Does what you guys mean that in "D" mode the car knows when to shift even at high rpms and if it does hit the rev redline its ok??

It will not go pass redline limit, it will bounce off the limiter and shifts to next gear by itself. unlike my M3, once it goes pass redline? the fuel shuts off

uh... for me, in manumatic, it just bounces off redline and fuel shuts off... it doesn't shift.

But can you actually redline it bad on just regular automatic mode. Will the gas shut off then?? and also what happens when the gas shuts off?? You know, just incase this ever happens lol.

"gthirty" leave it in "D" and let it do its work it will not redline the car in "D". it will automatically upshift for you. Its fine if it reaches right before redline or the first tick of redline cause in "D" the computer does the shifting at the correct moment itself, thats why for racing many people perfer leaving the car in "D" in Automatic cars. Now in manumatic, the car can go past redline and hit the revlimiter and stay there until the fuel shuts off. In manumatic mode the computer will not upshift for you once you reach the red-line area so be careful, you have to upshift yourself. You get me?

btw - it's a GOOD thing that it revs so easily to redline. i've had other cars and they struggle to get to redline. and usually the 'redline' tach point is just a general safely guideline set by the manufacturer - the car can handle rpm's past the redline (but you have to figure out how to shut off the rev limiter). not saying ppl should do this, but just fyi...

Wow, your not going to kill this car. These things are built like tanks... experiment with it and become comfortable with the sounds and how it feels in different situations. If you are in "D" you can't bounce of the Rev's period, the car shifts for you thats why they call it an automatic. If you are in manual mode the car will not shift for you and you will "bounce" of the rev limiter... this means that the car will shutter and stutter (jerk back and forth) as it kills the gas a bit... if you feel that then up-shift in a hurry or slam it back into "D" real fast.

Thats it, nothing to it... It will not kill you to hit the limiter. I have 53K on my car and I have hit it now and again with no problems whatsoever.

"for racing in an automatic." It should be criminal to "Race" in a 5at g35. Sorry AT members, but your choice should tell you that you picked a luxury coupe for touring and crusing in a nice looking car, not racing.
Even a 6 m/t should not be considered a "Racecar."
