Any news on AWD Coupe?
Any news on AWD Coupe?
Hey all -- so I'm looking at a few different cars right now. Here are my choices as of now:
1. G35 AWD 6MT sedan
2. Subaru STi
3. G35 6MT coupe
4. '04 Audi S4
Now, the Audi is most likely out just because it's so freakin' expensive, although I would definitely get it if I had the money. I really want an AWD car, so that's why the G35 is #3 instead of #1. My question is, are there any rumors of an AWD option for the 6MT coupe at all? I know for 2004 they're going to have the option for the sedan. But I'd like to get the coupe -- if it was AWD.

Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
No current plan to unveil an AWD coupe and I don't anticipate seeing one anytime soon. Even though the AWD system seems to be based on the ATTESA system, it looks to be intended more for all-weather traction than performance.
Plus sedan sales volumes are always more than coupes and the coupe volumes probably wouldn't justify an AWD version.

Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
I doubt we will see AWD in the G35 Coupe. The only Coupe that has AWD on the market is the Audi TT Coupe. Every other coupe is RWD, the way it should be. The G35 Coupe is a performance car, and RWD is the way to go. Since Coupes are more like pleasure vehicles and not really about being practical (2 doors, less trunk space), I really don't think Infiniti will release an AWD G35 Coupe and I don't expect it from them.
Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
Mercedes Benz has their 4matic all wheel drive system. By the end of this year it will be available in 32 Mercedes models spread across 5 model lines. But not one of these models is a coupe or a roadster. So I would say the chances of seeing
it in a G35 coupe are slim indeed since sportier models seem
to stay with the RWD.

Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
I don't think there is a high demand for an AWD G35 Coupe. I mean, personally, if there was an AWD G35 Coupe model, I would jump on it. But at the same time, I am really happy that my G35C is RWD. It has a really nice feel to it when driving aggressively, and it's fun in the rain. ;-)
Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
I don't think you'll see one until the GTR is introduced here... as for AWD not being for performance... what about the GTR in japan, those are coupes and they are AWD... granted the power plant is different but you get what I mean. I'd definitely get the coupe in an AWD version... I'd like to be able to drive it all year round...
Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
AWD for the coupe? The answer is "No way". Since Nissan already has its ultimate AWD coupe the "GT-R" they certainly wouldn't want another AWD coupe to interrupt its place in the market. Tho it would be great...but it just won't happen. ;(

evne though i dont' wanna except the fact of Coupe not havin AWD but sigh i gues si gotta since it's the truth. But AWD = is faster off the line then RWD rite?
Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
AWD is faster off the line but parasitic after that. Plus I don't think it helps handling in every case unless its very well tuned for performance. Unless you live in an area with tons of snow AWD isn't going to be worth much for day to day driving.
Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
Oh man, the chances of getting the G35 are slipping away fast then...one of the reasons why I'm looking at getting a new car is for AWD for going into the snow...granted that's only maybe 15-30 times a year depending on my schedule, but if I get a new car and still have to put chains on it, I don't know. And I'm definitely going for a manual transmission.
Re: Any news on AWD Coupe?
There will be an AWD GT-R released in the states in the next few years, but you're also talking about 400hp and a sticker of nearly $75K. I really doubt AWD will be available for the standard coupe models, but it would be nice.
