cats or test pipes?
Hi-flow cats still try to scrub the exhaust, as mandated by emission standards. They might not do as good of a job as the OEM cats, but they do make an effort.
Test-pipes are simply empty tubes, sometimes resonated for better sound. They sacrifice any attempt at emmision compliance for the sake of no flow restriction.
I've never really seen a comparision between the HP/TQ gains of test-pipes and hi-flow cats, but I imagine they are pretty similar. If it's a matter of 3-5HP advantage to the test-pipes, I'd rather run hi-flow cats.
...But I used to drive a '55 Bel Air street rod with a carb'd, hot 468ci big-block. I used to feel bad for the people being gassed behind me. It was pretty obnoxious. So I have no desire to increase the noxious fumes exiting the G's pipes. Besides, I have to make up a bit for those years of driving the '55 around. I should probably be driving a Prius.

If it plays 5 seconds, refresh a few times and it should play the full vid.
