What do you do with the used oil after you are finished changing the
oil? I store mine in large empty plastic Tide laundry detergent containers and then bring the used oil over to kragen for disposal. I have 6 of these containers.

I would like to see as many responses to this question as possible since I am asking this to help the City and County of San Francisco - perhaps our answers will make it easier for us to get rid of our used oil!

pour it down the storm drain.

just kidding--I don't pour it--I throw the container in the storm drain as well.

Not really, I don't change my own oil and thus am contributing nothing to this thread

Why don't you change it yourself? Then you could contribute something useful

Don't have the time or desire to

The only oil I would change is a full size truck or suv---so I could just slide in there and do my damage w/out need to drive onto ramps.

I have 4 five gallon gas cans I use to store used oil. When I get all of them filled I take the used oil to either Advanced Auto Parts, or to a county run recycling center.

I live out in the stix, so I pour it along my fence line to keep the weeds down. You can also take a 1/2 gallon of it and mix in a cup of powdered sulphur. Then you can use it on your dogs and cats, it will get rid of mange quick.

I am surprised that San Francisco doesn't do it with their curbside recycling. Here in San Jose they provide what is basically a milk jug that has a screw cap and they take it away along with your trash and recycling.

I have a 9qt oil pan/container that I take back to Walmart and dump in their recycle container. Yes, I buy my oil at Walmart. They carry Mobil1. (But I get my filters elsewhere.)

Here in Portland they'll take motor oil with the curbside recycling if it's in a clearly marked see-through container with a screw top lid.

And if you're smart, you would have asked for the bag that comes along with it for the oil filter too...

I leave everything at a friend's shop...
