No coupe front struts wont fit an x. Kyb makes front shocks for the x, I have them and they are nice, I'm happy with them.

^ KYB gr-2? or a higher line.

GR-2 are just stock replacements, not designed for lowered cars. other lines of KYB like the AGX are a little better suited for a slight drop.

Im just looking for the best way to drop like an inch maybe more without messing with camber and excessive tire wear without dropping the $ for coils.

You posted that back on page 108, I'd go with this advice as I plan on doing the same:

It's really difficult to measure the exact change in ride height, but installing the sedan sport rears dropped the back right around half an inch. The Coupe fronts were closer to an inch shorter than the X fronts and that corresponded to right around a 1" drop in the front. This is pretty much equivalent to the drop the G/Z spring combo gives RWD sedans and my car ended up slightly lower than a stock RWD. The only thing that would give you less is if you put sedan sports in the front, but I prefer the wheel gap to be about the same in the front and the rear.

As far as ride quality goes, I really didn't notice any change at all. The spring rates are pretty close to stock and I'm not low enough to noticeably increase the handling.

Z/G springs would give you a drop that was between the Coupe/Sedan Sports and the H-Techs. They would also be significantly cheaper than the H-Techs. The H-Techs would be a good choice too and I've heard the ride quality is fairly good. I would try to find a used set so you can save a little cash though. Also, you will need a rear camber kit with those unless you are just wanting to adjust the toe back within spec. There may be enough adjustment with the stock toe bolts to do that.

I've heard the Conti DWS are a quality all-season tire. I went with GoodYear Eagle GT's, but that was mostly because of the limited availability in the size I was looking for. Depending on where you live, you might also consider a Summer tire for those wheels. I can't comment too much on tire sizes because my wheels are 18", but the 235/40 would be closer to stock diameter than a 245/40. There are tons of people on here with the Rays who can probably give you recommendations based on their experiences.

There are a few pictures of my car on post 496 in the thread linked below. As you can tell, it looks pretty much like a stock RWD. Too high for most peoples taste, but it's exactly what I was looking for.

Ok but i want to do more than just swap out springs because that will eventually lead to shock and strut problems

if you wanna spend the cash get the coils. if you wanna be cheap just get the springs.

dont make your life harder then it should be. The type of questions you post up clearly shows us you dont want to read much into this thread, yea i know its 114 pages but really i think its been posted about 20 times, so you only have to glance thru 5 to find out what works and what doesn't.

People do just springs and it has worked for them till this day and others go with new struts and still blow them. its the luck of the draw. kinda like why your brakes need to replaced every year verus the next guy who will never need to replace his.

You did not go thru much, i dont know about the earlier pages but i know from page 100 and forward most likely every 10-15 post, someone will ask which spring is best or were to buy the coils. Its just almost every time i see an updated post in this thread, i WISH
someone did something new but its just "whats the best and CHEAPEST drop, oh i've searched"

in short your answer goes as this.

cheap = springs only

$$$= Coilovers.

Buy new rear shocks or get used G/Z rears as NOTHING will work for the front, the GR-2 are OE replacements NOT exactly designed to handle a lowered car. Truechoice mods koni yellows for almost same cost as coils.

THere are a bunch of us AWD owners on here and including myself, went thru maybe setups of G springs, Z springs, teins, pro-kits and just was never happy with the drop. We went coilovers and . I've yet to read a REAL complaint yet, only thing i can see is that the rears dont raise up to stock height, but the rears take 15 minutes per side to do, its not much of a hassle.

not rocket science because any spring for the Z/G will work. We only have one coilover option, so its not like there is a debate on which coil is better then the next.

How is your progressive sway bar? Do you have any other chassis strengthening mods?
