260 versus 298 Factory HP

Does anyone know what Infiniti did to take the 6 speed sedan from 260 to 298 in 2005? Has anyone tried updating to get that power...ie an 05 ecu or intake etc?

Let me know if you guys have heard anything on this.

I also have an enthusiast at one of our local dealers trying to find out what created the increased power.

The 05+ coupe/sedan 6MT's have what is referred to as the "revup" engine. This engine has several changes, including allegedly stronger rods, variable exhaust timing(in addition to intake), a higher redline, allegedly different ecu maps, and a different intake plenum.

Peak hp occurs at roughly the same rpm, but the revup keeps that peak all the way till redline(in stock form), whereas the non-revup drops power after 6200 or so rpms. The increased redline doesn't have anything to do with the increased peak hp.

You can't simply ad bolt ons or flash the ecu to get the revup motor. But don't be envious of the revup's hp; it also makes less torque than the standard package.

I'll take that as a compliment, and thank you, but I'm really only repeating what I've read elsewhere.

I believe it's the same. Right at 6200 to 6300 rpms. Again, that's stock. The installation of the MREV causes a similar drop after peak as the non revup engine.

I am actually considering removing the mrev to see if it affects my times at all. The mrev has been a proven mod, but in my case, I just didn't see the same gains most others did.

I believe the rods are the same, it's the rod bolts that are stronger. I know that a lot of Maxima guys with VQ30s that are revving to 7000+rpms specifically use Rev-Up rod bolts.
