Lightbulb Nismo Shifter Feedback

hey everybody just another monday here....thought i'd ask for some input! i recently had a nismo shifter installed in my 05 sedan at the dealer and besides it feeling a bit more "knochy" (if thats how u spell it) i got some sort of grinding noise a couple days after the install....it seemed to be coming from the lower part of the shifter i guess where it screws on or whateva. the noise was noticably loud and happened when i would deccelerate in gear or in neutral, i no longer have the problem for some reason but im still a little concerned about it! has anyone had or know anyone with this problem??? cars going to the dealer friday......

Is this a short shift kit or just a ****?

I was not aware Nismo made a kit.

Same question...

If it is just the **** it sounds like they did not clamp the lower part when taking off the old ****. It it is a new shifter then they might have not gotten the sleeve back on correctly.

I have a nismo titanium **** and a rogue engineering shifter both of which I installed myself. It is easy to mess it up. It also could be the synchros going out. Had my tranny replaced once under warranty for that (as have hundreds, maybe thousands of other G's/Z's).

I have a B&M short shifter, and it definitely narrowed the shift gates; you have to be a bit more precise when you throw the stick, but you get used to it. 6th is still a little tricky, but that's never a fast shift anyway.

You shouldn't be getting any type of grinding sensation (huh huh huh) after your shifter install, these tranies use linkages and aren't like the old top-loaders where the stick went right down into the gears. No reason for your installers to have messed with the trans at all. If it is your synchros, the new shifter certainly didn't have anything to do with it, you just might notice it more because the linkage is tighter. Synchros would present more of a problem during actual shifting, anyway, not while you're in gear. If your not still having the problem, I wouldn't worry. If you want to be on the safe side, ramp/jack up your car (use jack-stands, please), position yourself directly underneath the driveshaft where the shifter comes through the floor. There's a boxy rubber boot that protects the lower linkage; pop that cover off and check for metal shavings. If none, you're good; if metal, talk to your installers.
