G35 Base Leather or Acura TSX?

Can anyone point me to the right direction of my next purchase of a midsize family sports sedan? Besides the obvious HP differences and of course the TSX fix my budget perfectly, thanks.

Do you want RWD or that lousy FWD? Remember the
expense of owning the "performance brakes" of the G35!

The TSX is a substantially smaller car. I would put it on par with the lexus IS 300. It is also front wheel drive. That might be an advantage in winter climates.

Coming to a G35 forum will only net you emphatic recomendations for buying a G35

m500, You are already pointed in the right direction if you are in this forum. The wrong direction would be seeking advice in the Acura forums. I agree with Jim.

Well my friend has a TSX and I can tell you that the interior of the TSX looks/feels better IMO, but thats about it. Compared to my G35, interior is alittle smaller and performance isn't on pair to the G. If you don't mind a smaller interior go with the TSX because it fits your budget, but if you prefer a little head room and some space then go with the G.

Thats my 2 cents.

I compared the TSX when I was buying my G. If your budget is for a base G35, I would recommend getting the loaded TSX unless you really want to RWD.

Also, are you getting the 6MT TSX or auto?

Re: G35 Base Leather or Acura TSX?

I bugged the local Acura dealer enough that I was at the dealer when their first TSX arrived on the intro date. I waited for them to P.D.I. and prep the car and drove it. I was hoping to be wowed and swayed. But I wasn't. Night and day different driving experience. Little torque, to light steering effort, little in the way of comparitive acceleration. Allot less sporty, willing to dance feelings. Acura market's the car as a BMW alturnative, driving one reveal's the truth however, another pretender. Thing's the TSX has that are great. Engine smoothness, shifter action (but lack's the percision of a GSR box), seats are better IMO. But sporting car to sporting car, the TSX makes a promise it never delivers on, one that the G35 sedan does in spades, witness the tagline, "The four door 350Z.

Re: G35 Base Leather or Acura TSX?

Ok, since this is a G35 board, you already know what my answer is going to be. But if, for some reason, you are still having trouble deciding, then imagine this following two scenarios happening:
Scenario 1: You're driving your new G35, and a TSX pulls up next to you. You know you can smoke it, and you know that the TSX driver knows that too. You think to yourself, "Glad I got the G."
Scenario 2: (Reverse of Scenario 1): You're in your new TSX and a G35 pulls up. You think, "Oh man. There's a G35. That thing will eat this car for lunch."

If you want an Acura, I would recommend the new 270 Hp TL w/ 6 spd, but that thing starts out around $33-34k, which is probably out of your price range (would be for me). I got my 6 spd 2003.5 G35 for $28k.

My 2 and a half cents.

2003.5 black/black 6 spd w/ splashguards and sunroof

Re: G35 Base Leather or Acura TSX?

I have a G35 Base Leather... traded my 2002 TL. I knew that I would be giving up a lot of content and features in going to a base G, so I had to rationalize my decision. I gave up:
- sunroof, didn't use it much
- power passenger seat, it's mostly just me
- memory seats, above
- rear seat AC vent, above
- Bose (base stereo in G is better than Bose in TL)
- quieter cabin, sometimes I miss this
- 27 MPG average fuel economy, I miss this too
- Homelink, I miss this as well, but my remote is velcroed by my knee
- if I left out anything, it's because I don't miss it

However, I gained so much more:
- Torque, coming from an Altima then a TL, I never knew what this was before
- RWD, the driving experience is night and day, I had an I35 for a day and really disliked the driving dynamics of FWD
- the look, compliments abound, friends and coworkers are envious
- 17 inch wheels
- really cool windshield fluid jets
- that engine roar, can be quite invigorating
- damn this car is fast!
- much better tuned sporty suspension, for that planted feel
- grin factor, many more smiles per mile!

Also, everytime I see the TSX I think it looks like a chick car, on par with the VW Cabrio. But if that doesn't bother you, the interior is nicer and the ride would be quieter, and there's a little more content as well.... however, all of these added up is still a small price to pay for RWD and torque!

And I added a trunk lid spoiler for a couple of hundred, tint for $200 and splash guards for $90... oh... this forum is cool, the TL forums were quite ricey, not much better than the Honda guys.

Re: G35 Base Leather or Acura TSX?

Might I recommend if you are going to get a G, get the 6MT since it is a little ($300 or so) cheaper than the AT model, plus you get that extra control. The TSX 6MT is a lot smoother, but the 6MT in the G really gives you feeling and a connected feeling that is amazing.

I dont think you can go wrong with the G, but I suggest you test drive it over some rough pavement, the suspension is quite firm, I love it cause it handles like its on rails but its not for everyone

dont worry about the brakes being grabby u get used to that quickly

If you want a midsized car, you should be looking at the TL, not the TSX. Since price seems to be an issue for you, you may also want to check out the Volvo S60 -- it's nearing the end of the year, and I think most dealerships are doing $5000 off MSRP on S60's in-stock. I liked the Volvo over the '03 TL, but really wanted to stick with a RWD platform.
