Aftermarket Sunroof options.

Has anyone had an aftermarket sun\moon roof installed? I hear its $1000 normally but does that include the new factory head liner and oem sunroof controls?

I just got an 05 blk\blk sports package moving up (down? haha) from my loaded 03.5

Also I'm interested in getting the wireless inteli-key installed and the homelink auto dimming mirror.

any input would be appreciated, thanks guys.

Your best bet is to find a wrecked G with a sunroof and have the roof removed and installed on yours. The Sunroof assy alone is around $2500.00 for parts alone, headliner - $500.00, roof panel - 750.00. If you want a sunroof, trade your car in.

I wouldn't put a sunroof in if it wasn't from the factory. Asking for trouble later on.

I had a power sunroof installed a few years back on a 2001 Lincoln LS. It was a Webasto sunroof that was guaranteed and waranted for the life of the sunroof. It came with irrigation channeling so it would leak, and YES there was a headliner. When it was done, you could not tell the difference between a Webasto sunroof from stock. It was all power, tilt and slide open feature.

$1100 total (parts and install)

Aftermarket sunroof's today are no where near as unreliable as they were years ago. If ~$1100 is worth it for you, I would research Webasto products a little more.

Hope this helps

I have had a few friends who had them installed and no problems ever came up that I know of.

They won't be oem and will have a different control but will cost you a lot less.

I have relatives who got the Webasto s/r installed for about $1K. Totally satisfied. My son-in law recently had his 2nd installed, and said it had features not available on OEM s/r. IIRC, it closes when you shut off the ignition, unless you take some action. They are not like the old units! Worth looking into.

I have the factory one in my G with no problems.

I put an aftermarket Webasto in my wife's 05 4Runner, and it leaked like crazy. I had a bad feeling about the aftermarket, but was assured it was as good as OEM. Let's just say I wish I stuck with my gut feeling. Needless to say, I will never again go with an aftermarket one.
