Gas tank fill up

My gas guage was on empty. When filling up the pump kept clicking off like the tank was full but it only showed 10 gallons. I waited a few times but same thing when I started the flow of gas again.Clicked off like it was full. Guage only shows just over 1/2 tank. I would blame the pump but it has happened one other time to me at a different station. I live in TX so I don't have to deal with the nozzle return contraptions like in CA. Don't know what to make of it. Anyone else have this happen?

I'm waiting to hear the answer on this one too? Did you go to the same gas station? Have your guage checked, was it working properly (registering a full tank before?) Last, what method of payment? Credit purchases in NY are limited to $35. If you want more you have to pay with another credit card or cash.

Re: Gas tank fill up

Texas tends to have cheaper gas than the rest of the nation. There's no way you can hit $35 in 10 gallons, and I doubt you'd hit that on a full fill-up there.

Re: Gas tank fill up

It has something to do with the design of the tank/pipe leading to the tank. When the pump senses a certain amount of back pressure it shuts off as it thinks your tank is full. For some reason the design doesn't allow some pumps to fill your tank all of the way up.

It happens to me at three different gas stations. One is a BP, Costco and one other I can't remember. Very annoying. If I was doing a cross country trip and needed a fill up and there was only one gas stating in town and this happend I would be pissed.

Re: Gas tank fill up

the probably just changed their filters....

Turn the handle of the gas pump 180 degrees and you will be able to pump a full tank (and more, so be careful)

Re: Gas tank fill up

the only bad thing about that, is that it means that station never change their filters!!
