Future owner advice please!
Hi everyone,
I'm from Canada, Quebec and I plan to buy a used G35 this Spring.
I currently own a Nissan SER Spec V 2002 and I'm tired to hear my catback sound and feel bumpy crapy road with my drop. I want a nice car and comfortable ride. I will probably mod the look of the G35 but I will not play with the comfort like I did you my Spec V.
Ok, Now, I don't know much about G35 Quality. I know that with my Specv 2002 witch is the first year of this model, I had some trouble with ECU, Throttle body and some mecanical parts. I'm asking this because I will probably buy a 2003 or 2004 year and looking to have 55 to 68k km on the motor. That's what I can buy with my budget, And Would like to know If there is big trouble in these years !?.
I would like to know what thing I need to look when I will test drive car, or when i will see it in the seller driveway.
There is probably some Hidden trouble that I can see and Inspect before I buy, and protect me of trouble in the future.
(Only 1 thing I probably know perfectly. is how to clean SES code
. I've done that alot of time with my Spec v and as I can see, all nissan/infiniti have the same pedal thing to obtain OBD code)
I can see there is 3 kind of Option??. Base, premium, And Aero ? but some seller don't put exactly what option is included. is there a site that explain exactly what contain what.!?
I just don't want regret my buy, I don't have alot of money and it's a big expense for me.
P.s How many years Infiniti warranty parts ?. is it 4year/100k km ou 6 years ?
I would like to get factory warranty with my buy!
Thank You for your help!.

Hi,
I bought an '03 G35 (Sedan) about two weeks ago. One thing you might find comforting is the '03 G35 is considered one of the most reliable cars according to one of the consumer reporting magazines (there's a huge sign at the local Infiniti dealer with the details - maybe you can investigate).
I did my research by searching for "Infiniti G35 reviews" and "2003 G35 problems", and so on. There are literally more articles than you'll have time to read. And you can spend days reading forums like this one, there are a few other Infiniti- and G35-specific forums and some have threads dedicated to problems and problem solving.
I know you asked for specific things to look for but I think doing your own research on the forums will yield more valuable information. I'd say the most important item is a CarFax report to ensure there's no mileage tampering and that there's no accidents or hidden flooding/salvage title funny business.
BTW, now is a good time to buy an '03 because the four-year lease cars are coming back (same for the three-year leased '04s).
Last, as far as the options: You can spot the Aero because in addition to the spoiler there are the ground effect bumper additions. If the car has navigation then it has to have the premium package (their requirement and why I insisted on buying with the navigation)! The premium package adds the automatic headlights and the Homelink which I don't believe were available separately. Here's a link that will help: http://www.infinitihelp.com/Infiniti...escription.htm
Good luck!

Hey I just bought my 03 sedan as well. I'm in Calgary, AB and the G has 64K on the odometer. The warranty is a balance of 6yrs/110K on power train. I had the car fully inspected with engine compression test to ensure it's still tight. Mine is the premium package with the reclining rear seats, home link blah, blah. Definitely run a carfax to find out the history, and have it inspected by a qualified dealership (with engine compression check) and you should be fine. I like your car BTW, my last ride was an 02 Maxima and I can understand your comment about those cars being a bit more unrefined. I'm going to drop the G though, I don't think it'll be any where near as harsh a ride. HTH
Just picked up an '04 sedan this past weekend. Well kept off lease.
Infiniti warranty is 4 years 100,000km basic, 6 years 110,000km powertrain.
We all know how good the engine is
I had an old '90 Maxima that I put over 500,000km on. Most common reported problems are early brake wear, heavy oil consumption, poor fuel economy and interior rattles.
Pretty solid for a car used by enthusiasts. All the reviews I read were positive and quality was never a serious issue.
Lots of threads here started by potential new owners discussing reliability etc... just do a quick search.

Here is an old comparo link to whet your appetite.

I bought my 03.5 new and loaded (Aero, Nav, Sports, Prem...). I has given me 4 years of excellent service with little to no trouble at all. I have had no major expenses for repairs other than the multitude of mods I have added. I have had a few warranty items - CD changer lockup, burnt clock light, O2 sensor failure, OEM brake replacement at 36,000 km, but I now have over 100 K km and she still rides as sooth and tight as the day I got her.
Have the car inspected by a reputable shop before you buy and you should be OK. You could also contact the local dealer for the car you buy and get a service report.
Good luck.
