G35 vs. Mustang GT
Re: Back to the topic...
Dream on if you think a stock Mustang GT could take an NSX...the cobra maybe the SVT probably but not the GT. A TT Skyline with 450hp had the same numbers so don't give me that crap....I think all your hp is going to your ***** and draining the fluid out of your brain. And by the way the Skyline, which this car is if you were paying attention, has a very good racing history....compared to porsche's many a time. http://www.jbskyline.net/

Yes, a V8 will generally beat a V6. I still haven't seen a stock American V6 that can keep up. You keep comparing souped-up cars making 500HP+ to a stock G35, which I don't understand.
Well, I can see this is becoming something of a religious debate, so I'll just back

I'm not comparing souped up cars, I'm comparing readily available showroom stock cars that cost the same, if not less. Granted, you can't find a stock American V6 that can keep up with a G, but you also can't find a Japanese or German car with a V8 for $35k! With American cars, by the time you start paying $35k, you have a V8!

Great!! While you're out driving, stop by a Chevy or Ford dealership and take a Z28 or GT with a manual tranny for a test drive, just for kicks. I'm not suggesting they're better, just different. I'll bet either of them would put a smile on your face as they pin your back to the seat!

Nothing to say about the heritage anymore?? I would stack the skyline heritage against the mustang heritage anytime....plus if you insist on comparing cars lets do it stock to stock...regular stock mustang against the stock G35.

Re: Back to the topic...
Mustangs look like $hit and handle like $hit... All there good for is straight line performance...
You talk about the Mustang having heritage... what do you think about the late 70's and 80's Mustangs.... They were seriously pathetic....
That said I do like the 60's Mustangs... now those were nice.... if they make the new Mustang to look like the prototype there showing I would even consider buying one..
but back to perfomrance of todays mustangs
The true perfomance of a car is on a race track where all the abilities of a car come into play... about year and half ago, car magazine did a comparison on a Ford Mustang GT and a Acura Integra, the first test was driving up a mountain road.. the Integra smoked the Mustang, even tho the Mustang had superior HP the crappy suspension of the Mustang made the car unstable up the mountain road, every time it hit a imperfection in the road, the car would lose its composure. Next they took the cars to a race track, they first ran the cars on the short version of the track where the straight aways were short.. The integra beat the mustang by 1.8 seconds.. Next they raced on the track with the long straight aways and the Mustang beat the Integra by 0.2 seconds..... The Mustangs V-8 could only beat the Integras 4 cylinder by 0.2 secs... thats sad...
Just because a car has lots of HP does not make it a great car.... Sure the Supercharged Cobra Mustang will beat a NSX on the drag strip, but put both cars on a race track and the NSX will smoked the Mustang everytime...
I don't know about everyone else, but when I buy a car I look for 3 things....
1. How the car looks
2. How it handles
3. How fast it is...
Pretty much in that order.... Its beyond me how anyone can say the Mustang is a good looking car.. it looks like a shoe box with a big engine... god knows it handles like one....

All the video shows is a mustang racing a bike... does not show who won... and I thought we were talking about stock machines, not modified ones.... also throw in the fact that a street bike costs lot less then a Cobra...
I'm not anti american cars.... hell if I had the money I'd buy a Viper in a heart beat.... I'd even buy myself a Prowler if I could afford to have a second car like that... I just think Mustangs are butt ugly and handle like crap... In most cases I wouldn't even care, but I find it funny how so many people go on and on about how awesome todays Mustangs are... when all they truly are is a sub average car... who's only strong point is it can go fast in a straight line..

Since we're going "back to the topic", thank you for your pointless diatribe, genius. With all of your vast knowledge please bless us with the following information: Will a stock G35 beat a stock Mustang GT in a race? NO! That's what I thought. (That was the original question, BTW....)

A stock 35k Mustang against a Stock G35....
Handling - Mustang
Straight Line Perf - Mustang
Looks - Mustang
Transmission - Mustang (tremec heavy duty t-56)
Comfort - G35
Amenities - G35
Engine - Mustang.. the possibilities for the 4.6 DOHC Sc'd v8 are amazing.. read up instead of playing the ignorance game..
Heritage.. the Mustang has been around longer than Nissan itself.. But what exactly does "heritage" mean.. I think there is a more loyal fanbase to the mustang than there is to the Skyline. Its a household name.. Try asking your grandfather what a Nissan Skyline is..

Re: Back to the topic...
To Kegster: The Mustang Cobra is very different from a Mustang GT. It also handles better than the G35 Coupe or Sedan. That integra was probably a type R.. which i think is slightly more $$ than a GT as well.
IRS, brembo brakes, 6spd Tremec, 275/40ZR17 F1s on all corners..
Front Engined cars will *almost* always handle worse than a mid engined exotic but I wouldn't be surprised if the Acura lost due to its lack of power. A stock 03 cobra around a road course is within that of an M3. I hate to say magazine race... but look at the stats..
You wont believe it or admit it until you drive one.
To the V6 debate: There are plenty of american V6 engines worth noting.. ever heard of a Buick Grand National? The new GTP will also give a G35 a run for its money. As will the new bonneville. They push out 280HP out of their 3.8 OHV roots blown NON INTERCOOLED engines..
I dont pay based on horse power per liter.. I pay based on the amount of horsepower..The SVT Foci's engine makes 170HP out of 2.0 liters. Does that make it better than the 3.5 V6 in our cars? Based on your way of thinking.. it does..

They push out 280HP out of their 3.8 OHV roots blown NON INTERCOOLED engines.. Hehe.. you said "blown". The G35 coupe does that with .3L less and no blower. Plus, I want a car that won't fall apart like a Grand Prix does a few years after the warranty's gone.
Couldn't resist jumping back in. Ya'll are gettin' really riled up. As for the original question, I suppose it depends on the type of race. Straight? Mustang. Corners? G35. To the store and back with the kids? Caravan.
And if you insist upon bringing up the money topic, there's a reason why luxury cars cost more than a Mustang GT... your GT doesn't have driver's seat memory, side airbags, head protection curtain airbags, traction control, stability control, GPS Nav systems, rain-sensing wipers (neither does the G35 here, but others do), reclining rear seats, automatic climate control, xenon headlights, and possibly several other nifty gadgets. Those features cost money, and I for one am pleased to pay for them. And if you don't want most of those features, the G35 can be had for about 28k.

Re: Back to the topic...
There is an extreme amount of ignorance flowing through the blood of this thread, and I would like to give Blade kudos for battling it with such calm.
There is SO much to pick apart in this thread, but what struck me was Kegster calling the 80's Mustang's pathetic. Seriously, the 5.0 is pathetic? Yeah, the 302 definetely wasnt a good engine. Idiot. Oh and that Mustang vs. Type-R comparison...first off go watch some initial D you mountain-road loving riceboy. Second, SCC picked the Mustang...no contest. Third, with equal drivers a Cobra will have a slight advantage over an NSX on the track. For christ's sake, 80k for that car? Ridiculous ricer wet dream.
Ryoken,
For awhile now I have been battling with your type. So blind, you cannot bring imports and domestics together. You are obviously extremely dilusional, so I will not try too hard to convince you. I'd take a car with a 3.8 with the L67 blower over your G for performence. It's easy to mod a factory force air induction car. Oh, and drop the lame *** "but its FI" or "but it has more cylinders" arguments. A high tech motor in an American car that was widely produced? LS1 ring a bell? Oh well, have a nice day. Do try not to speard your thoughts to too many others. Fanboy.

Re: Back to the topic...
I see. You'd rather take the bigger engine with the blower that makes less power (and there's that funny little part where you have to take out a motor mount to replace the accessory drive belt -- grand feat of engineering there). Okay. Your choice, not mine. And you have absolutely no concept of what "type" I am. Don't let the nickname fool you, it's just something I've been playing games with for a long time. I can see you're so worked up you've resorted to name calling. That's definately not the same calm approach you're giving kudos to others for using.
Please show me where my delusion is.. everything I've said is either a fact, or my personal opinion. I haven't lied, and I haven't flat out said that the G35 is better than the Mustang. When I went shopping for my new performance-luxury sports sedan (not sports car/coupe), I looked at the entire field.. including the Cadillac CTS and Lincoln LS. Did I mention my wife drives a Jeep? There you go.. an import and a domestic, parked side by side every night, together. And don't worry about me trying to "speard" my thoughts.. since Merriam-Webster doesn't even know what that means.
As for being blind.. what can I say? LensCrafters loves me. Bring on the next round.. this is getting entertaining.
