Re: Homelink problem
On the newer door openers with rolling code is a 'learn' button which must be pushed (at the right time) to activate the training mode to complete the install. My learn button is on the head unit up by the antenna.

Re: Homelink problem
gsedanman is right, I had trouble with mine the day I brought it home, then realized my opener used the "rolling" code! This damn thing works better than the remote that came with the door, I can hit it a block away and the door opens!

Re: Homelink problem
I have a Genie opener, mine is inside the light housing, I can't remember the color of it right off hand, do you still have the manual for the opener? The G owners manual tells you how to do it, that's where if found how to do mine!

Or the <font color=red>Red</font color=red> flat one
Go to www.homelink.com and check out the steps. You'll want to make sure you follow the instructions for a rolling code opener. Have you reset your homelink since you moved? Aw heck, here you go--
1.You need to erase the memory first (hold two outside buttons imultaneously)
2. Hold the desired homelink button and your garage door's remote opener button at the same time. Hold em for a LOOOONG time til it starts to blink slowly. It may blink quickly too, eh, I forget. Just hold it a long time.
3. Remove the light cover from your garage door's mechanical unit-- VERY easy. Press the flat button in there. Could be green, could be red, could be chartreuse, I don't know/care-- it changes from opener to opener.
4. Run back to your car (which is parked within about 20 feet) and press the button your just made learn the code earlier. Hold it down til your garage's light blinks (~3 seconds). If it doesn't blink, just keep holding it, and pray. Press it a few times after you release it to test it.
5. Sit down and have a beer.

I don't know about yours, but Genie has made it a PITA to change the bulb, things have to be unscrewed, my last opener, even though it was a very old one, all you had to do to replace the buld, was unsnap the light cover!

Re: Homelink problem
GeoBau,
that is the one thing I haven't liked about the Genie, mine has two bulbs, and you don't remember one is out until you have the damned car in the garage, and it's almost impossible to get the cover off without moving the car! So, a lot of times I leave it until the other bulb acts up!

Re: Homelink problem
In addition to the sytems that require the "learn" mode, be aware that there are some systems that Homelink will not operate.
The development I live in has a gate that has some type of security even beyond that of rolling codes, and both the mfg. of the gate system and Homelink confirmed to me that Homelink will not operate it. Some mfg.'s will not disclose their codes to Homelink.
