Infiniti emblem

Does anyone know what the oval Infiniti emblem stands for? I have a friend that works at Nissan Engineering and he told me, but I just want to see what other peoples opinions are. So what do you think??

I always thought it was a road going into the horizon.
I first heard of Mt. Fuji on these boards tho.

What did your friend say?

I remember back in the 90's there used to be commercials that had a car going down the road and disappearing, then the infiniti sign came up. So, to me the symbol represents a never ending road.

^ I think you're right. I don't understand why it would be a Mt. Fuji symbol.

Mt. Fuji and the road to Infiniti are the ones I have heard. Do we get the answer?

if it's Mt Fugi...why the tip? shouldn't the symbol have a flat top of mountain (volcano) ... i lived in Tokyo for 2 years...never saw it spontaniously tip off

Alright, after some research I have found the answer.
It's both, haha, right. It's also from the infinity symbol.

"The unusual spelling assured the proprietary usage of the name, while the elegant logo was derived from the symbol for infinity." source article

The new logo expresses the concept of the open road traveling toward infinity. It also suggests Mount Fuji, a Japanese icon. source article

It is actually a road going to infinity. You guys were pretty good. I had heard of the Mt. Fuji also, but it is the road to infinity.
