Stop bragging about road racing

I dont want to sound like a wimp, but I cant help feeling that the road racing going on is going to bring grief - either to the driver which is bad but tough luck but worse to some other innocent person - manslaughter. To live ones life with the knowledge that one quick moment of "joy" has created such loss to either body, life or whatever must surely be a high price to pay. I would like to encourage folk to take this habbit off the road and find a track open lot or other place to race. I think this would also enhance the public respect for G drivers and generally prevent some sad incident. Secondly I would like to suggest to others that they dont respond to and condone the racing posts (we all know how quick our cars are) as this simply serves to condone this bad and reckless behaviour.

Colinr,
It took a brave man to write that post, not a wimp. Your post should serve as a reminder even a caution to driving safely with this very fun automobile. I'm not sure if its part of the male pysche that loves challenge and risk or control of power. I know it curses through my veins but I respect your message. Hopefully others will think, heed and perhaps hesistate from responding to your post with testosterone.

Respectfully,
Dknibb

Re: Stop bragging about road racing

colinr,

Your words of wisdom do not fall on deaf ears. It's a sad fact, however, that too many drivers on this and other car forums are simply not old enough to always show the proper restraint. Insurance companies know this, which is why premiums go down as drivers mature.

Just to keep the flames low, I'm not suggesting that all younger drivers are reckless. I simply remember how stupid and short sighted I once was.

Here's hoping that this post becomes popular, and that many more (young and old) chime in with their $.02 on responsible driving.

phew you had me worried there for a minute, being i'm a younger driver and all. i respect everyone's views, but will be the first to admit i've done my fair share on racing others on the road. I hate to see people trying to race in traffic and stuff

It shouldn't be too difficult to find a legal venue in your area. There's Solo2 Autocross, sanctioned by the SCCA. Local drag races. Track events. Whatever suits your fancy. I find that when I can play at least once a month, the urge to play on the streets is diminished. Instead of feeling challenged by the coffee-can exhaust Civics with 200lb wings, I just think "he wouldn't do very well in that car on an autox course."

Re: Stop bragging about road racing

While I do respect your post, I think that you will not deter anyone who is irresponsible enough to drive in this manner. I think we've all been guilty of street racing in some form or another. Some may choose to say that they know when it is safe enough to do it, some may not even care if there is a lot of traffic or other unsafe conditions. Racing is part of the American culture and you will never eliminate it from the streets. No matter how sincere your message is. I think the fact you think not talking about it here is going to help prevent it, you're wrong. Why on earth do think so many G drivers are modding their cars...I know "so we can take it on the track and be responsible" this might be true, but I'm sure these people drive with a little bit of the led foot between these times. Do you always follow the speed limit? Ran any red lights? I'm sure you don't have a squeaky clean driving record and if you do good on you. If people didn't break the laws on the road there would be a large hole in the citie's and countie's budgets and I think this would cause more problems than the natural selection that is happening on our streets with our spirited drivers. I understand that innocent people get hurt and killed but this unfortunately is a part of life.
Cars don't get respect, the people driving them do, and if people want to judge an entire line of cars based on how they see one person driving, well then these are probably the same people that do that with different ethnic groups and stereotype them, these people aren't worth anything to the human race anyway. So I'm not concerned about how people will perceive our cars. You will find a-hole drivers in any kind of car, yound and old.
I think that there are enough scare tactics and information about how bad street racing is for these people to make their own informed decision. I feel sorry for drivers that think that conversating about street racing condones it. Do you think G35driver allowing these discussions condone street racing...I think not! Have you ever talked about unsafe sex, murder, rape, etc. If you did, did you fear you might be condoning it? I'm not really sure I understand the intent of your message and how effective you think it will be, I think that we should let the people here talk about what they feel while abiding by the guidelines of this forum and let them make their own educated decisions about what they want to do with their life. That's just my 2 cents.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing

I appluad your message in one sense, but don't really understand the point of it? Road racing is a part of human nature and will always be something we all encouter and are guilty of, at times, as cars become faster and more performance orientated. Nor is road racing confined too "young" drivers. Human beings display human nature, that's a factof life, greed, anger, frustration..these are traits you'll see among many drivers just going too or from work every day. Road racing isn't just about racing other cars, it can be about people who are stuck in traffic and frustrated, people who need too be somewhere quickly or people who have had a lousy day. As auto manufacturer's make today's cars more performance orientated, there will always be people who will want too test that car's performance. Is bragging about racing other cars okay? I don't know, it depends on how and where the event took place, but I think that the people on this forum will have varying opinions.

Colinr,
I'm not trying to be a ***** or anything but don't you recall posting this..
"go Girrlllllll
By the way if any of you get smoked by a Pontiac Montana..." Sounds like you're doing a lot of condoning yourself. Especially since this is in reference to street racing. You wouldn't be a hypocrite now would you? It would be a shame that you've wasted our time by posting something you're not really sincere about.
What's your defense? Just curious!

Re: Stop bragging about road racing

Please clarify, my friend. What was it that I did to warrant such an insult?

Re: Stop bragging about road racing

Here's the real shame of this original post, it opens a new can of worms that entices some users too start the insult wars. I think that some people on this site love the chance too belittle someone else? The web site about punctuation etc.?..what's that about? Like I said, we're all entiltled too an opinion, let's try and keep that opinion relevant too the original post.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing

I provided you a link that will earn you much more respect than any car will and I know you will find it useful. I will insult anyone who thinks accidental killing and raising my insurance and taxes is a fair price to pay for their illegal racing fantasies.

I may be branding myself a sociopath, but why drive a high performance car on the street if (and only on "appropriate" occasions) you don't test its ability against other athletic machines. I've been doing his stuff since high school and due to either luck, skill, or the choice of rational opponents, I haven't caused any damage to life or property yet. And since I'm a member of the class of 1957, an oversupply of youthful testosterone can no longer be blamed.

Re: Stop bragging about road racing

Mule65,
Your weak attempt at an insult was illogical and unfounded. You make no sense, at all! How are you going to insult me with something that doesn't even pertain to what we were all talking about. Can you not come up with something good enough that you have to take a shot at my english. I am curious about what it was that prompted you to post that link. I'm sure you have that site as one of your favorites.
I never said that accidental killing is a fair price to pay, I said that it is reality. Maybe your own driving record is driving up your insurance cost. So I'm assuming you follow all the traffic laws also....right? Please tell me you do, because you probably are anyway.
Fantasies who has fantasies about racing? I certainly do not. I simply stated my opinion and if you can't live with it then don't read it. I never insulted anyone in my response to colinr's post, I'm sorry that you had to stoop to that level and insult me. Why don't you come up with a better argument.
You also inferred that I am looking for respect from my car, I don't understand. I never asked for respect from anyone.
If you're going to insult someone you need to take a better approach, and start making some sense. Please...I really enjoy this bantering but it can't continue if I can't decipher your intentions.
