Tire size question
Tire size question
What is the largest tire anyone is running on a G35 sport sedan, 2004, without modifications to the car? Are there any problems with your ABS or anything?
Would a 225/60/17 work?
How about a 235/60/17?

Thanks for input. I had understood that changing tire size >3% could cause the ABS system to malfunction since the sensors would misinterpret tire size with rotation, speed and what not.
With the 235's, do your wheel wells rub the tire when you carry 3-4 passengers?

235/50 - 17's are perfect. On my '04 6MT Sedan, they don't bulge on the rims, they don't rub or scrape with a full load of passengers and gear, they don't mess with the ABS system or sensors, and the speedometer readings remain accurate (like 1 MPH or less variance at 60 MPH).
Might I suggest the Goodyear Eagle F1-GSD3's in 235/50-17. I'm on my 2nd set now, and they stick like glue, ride nice (but have them Roadforce balanced!!), and they stick better in the rain than they do in the dry!
Another good choice is the Michelin Pilot Sports in the same 235/50-17 size. They are more expensive, and have consistently turned up a close second to the GSD-3's in every performance tire test shootout I've read so far, but a lot of people swear by them, too.

I think the sedan OEM sport suspension setup is a little too conservative. The ride is a little high; the tires a bit too narrow; and the suspension a little bit soft. 245/45/18 on the rear should be the minimum.
