Too much misinformation on these forums???

I recently posted a question here, and >60 posts later it became evident that there were more theories, opinions, and conjecture than real info. The debates started and soon heat replaced light and more and more misinformation showed up. The issue was clouded by those who knew nothing, contributed nothing, but had to say something anyway.

Eventually, it looked like 50% of the folks knew something (but not enough to answer the question), 50% didn't but wrote in anyway to give their theory (which was often incorrect) as fact, 50% were confused about the issue, 50%, were waiting for the correct answer, and 50% more (hey, I know this makes more than 100%-- but it makes the point) read the posts waiting to see whose theory would prevail.

The point being, make sure your info is correct before posting a response. If you don't know, say so and move on, if you just want to make a joke about something someone said it's OK-- but don't, please don't, just give your theory without facts. Too many car owners rely on this forum as part of their research before making expensive decisions.

This is exactly why you need to do your own research from multiple sources before you take anything on this forum as fact. I never take anything stated here on face value alone

Ask yourself the expensive question first - Whats cheaper? A. A transmission or B. brakes?

I take everything I read on here as opinion. The only way to be sure is lots of research. Never blindly trust the stuff you read on forums.

You look on the forums for help and answers, but you can belive everthing you read. 12yr old kids can join this forum, and pretend to own G35's and they could be the ones telling you BS. use the forums to HELP find answers, but do reseach on your own also.

Only 50% opinion than fact? Are you sure? I found it to be more like 90%.

You have to read everything and then make a best guess. Then, you may still be wrong.

Even if you call a shop or talk to someone who has some experience with you r particular issue/topic, you are just getting their opinion and what is good for them...this may not be what is best for you.

Good luck!

I can tell you that your 50% is wrong too.. unless you have a statistically significant sample size. At the end of the day, this is just a forum, and MOST people are just here to chat and help.

get over it all internet forums have similar issues -

usually there is more helpful info than not, and posting a question and then slamming 50% of the people who responded is kinda rude if you ask me.
