radar detector

Hello,
While this is not a G35-specific question, I'm sure many of you own radar detectors.
Is there any specific brand/model you might recommend in the below $200 price range ?
Thank you.

Re: radar detector

Allright mate, I'd recommend the Escort Passport but that retails for $299. There's a beltronic(950 model) that's a little cheaper. If you check out Motor Trend they recentley did a full write up on detectors.

Re: radar detector

Motortrend's write up states basically that the Bell is the best bang for the buck but its like $250. I have one and love it.

I have a Bel cordless..works great and clips on to the passenger side visor. It was around $150 or so.

Re: radar detector

Re: radar detector

I have a Bel Vector STi. For what it's worth, I'd say spend $15 on a little box that randomly beeps and blinks, and save the $185 for something else. I don't even use my Bel anymore because it's worthless.

Actually, I don't think I've ever been in a situation where a radar detector would have saved me, which is why I haven't bothered to get an Escort or a V1.

Re: radar detector

The Passport 8500 is $239.99 at http://www.everythingg35.com, so that's not too much over $200. I got one a few weeks ago and it's already saves my butt twice. If that $40 more saves you from a ticket, it's well worth it. EverythingG35 is one of this site's sponsors.

Re: radar detector

I also have the 8500 and that detector seriously rocks. Spend the money and get it. Programmable codes are amazing, sensitivity is amazing and I talk from experience. I had a Solo 1 and my 8500 just kills it in performance.

Re: radar detector

and don't forget the added protection of the Uniden BCT series... not radar detectors, but police CAR detectors. I have the BCT7 in my ride (scan the 800mhz/airplane band and DOT)

The BCT10 is smaller (compact radar size). use these in conjunction with your radar detectors. Gurgen's been running with my old BCT10, not sure if he keeps it active, but I know he does the SF to LA run every month or so.

here's an old thread on my uniden BCTs

Re: radar detector

I have the Escort Solo S2....cordless.

I don't know if it works hahahha do you have to program it or something or do you use it right away from the box?

I just took mine out popped the batteries in and started using it and it doesn't seem to be working all that great

Re: radar detector

Just got mine (Solo 2) on Saturday for my b-day. After reading the manual which take 5 mins, unless you know what your doing, using with factory settings is good enough. I'm trying to get all the noises down so I can tell what's being hit. Whatever you do, don't leave it up, even for an hour when your not in the car. Your just asking some punk to break into your car to steal that thing.
