Here's one for ya Tim, don't think I saw this covered anywhere.
Can the early 03 (doggy door) TCU be replaced with the later TCU, as long as it remains external? Can it be replaced with an internal one? I thought I remembered reading about an Infiniti reflash for the early model TCU's, but I can't find the thread anymore. Any info on this one?

Yes but read carefully. Some only fit the JDM models and not the USDM models. Where it says "older style" they mean 03/04 and "newer" is 05/06.

Sorry for the late reply on this one.
The HID system requires an igniter and takes a little time to warm up. The H4/9003 bulb that is the high beam and fog light is also used to "flash". In order to flash the HID setup you would need a high/low beam system that moves the beam like on a high/low projector (06+ coupe, Acura TL to name a couple). Flashing a cold HID can cause pre-mature wear and also emits a blue color which can be confused with emergency vehicles.

By "TCU" do you mean traction control module?
The re-flash I know about was for the ECU. The early 03 ECU is different and no flashes work on it. I don't know anything about a flash for the traction control system. My guess would be to look at the service bulletin list to see if one exists.
