Taillight Mod in the works!
#271
take a closer look at my car... if I ever need to remove the bumper, the tails aren't the only issue...
Unless I get in an accident, bumper and taillights would never need to come off the car. If I do get in an accident, things need to be fixed anyway so cutting the molded stuff to remove everything is no big deal.
I think people confusing the molded pieces for sheet metal welded in or something... it's just body work - it can all be re-done

^yea i see what you mean, on a black car from far away it looks al black like you dont even see where the tail lights end or start, same as the doggy door, you dont see it from far away on a black car, but im gonna mold the doggy door anyway. If there would of been a way to cut your tail lights so they were removable on followed the same line as your reverse lights all the way arond making it look OEM it would awesome imo but i kno thats imposible, you cant cut tail lights lol it looks amazing as is obviously, way better than stock and much better than your first set up, the first set up lookd like you had rear eyelids on your tails.

everything is molded, tail lights, fenders, sideskirts, bumpers lol, i would drive like a granny if i had my car like that in fear of ruining the bodywork, mold your doors shut so you can't get in

I think if someone wanted to do a different type of “cat-ear” delete – 07+ sedan tails would be a great choice. I just don’t think most people realize how much time, money and dedication is involved.

In the mean time, I had line painted to represent a gap - but it is satin black and doesn't look "deep" enough... so I will have it re-done a deeper/gloss black.

I want to do this mod. I have to do this mod. I read all 19 pages and must admit I have understood very little. I will do this mod. Your car is a sexy beast. If only you could remove those tail lights. Just kidding. Is there anyway the technical stuff could be condensed to just one page or something so that I might have a chance of doing something like this myself? Nice work by the way.

Basically to get the taillights to be your turn signal (what I did) - order the module from KPTechnologies (vendor on this forum) - he will send instructions on how to wire it in.
I'm not sure if he will have updated instructions (I'm the only one that has used this module that I know of)... if he sends the same instructions that I got, the only thing you need to add is a relay between the BCM and the modules.
To omit the OEM turn signal - you can do what I did (or get creative and find another way). I simply wrapped the bulb in tin foil so of course you don't see the light. As you read, I tried various resistors to keep the bulb from flashing, but couldn't make it happen. Some people suggest "removing the bulb" (talk about 'not thinking it through'), removing the bulb will make the BCM think the bulb is burned out and your dash signal will hyper flash. Also, some people think that since the OEM portion is painted you wont see the blinker - wrong. Its faint, but you see it.
Keven @ KPTechnowlogies was a HUGE help when I did this - he was always available by phone and always took the time to help figure things out. I suggest giving him a call and discuss what your plans are and let him guide you.
Good luck - post a link to your thread when you get it done

for what - the module?... or total?... If ttl, I have no idea how much just the tails were all together (lots - far more than anyone needs to spend now that the trial and error is done)...
The module cost me $300 - but I think he's selling now for $100-$200 (not sure of the exact price)... the install will be tons less time than I spent, so even if you pay for install it wont be too much - wiring in yourself saves money of course... the cost of body work to do whatever you intend is up to your shop...
I would say it could be done for $800-$1K (module + install + body work)... possibly less? and yes, that's quite a bit less than I paid.

I thought about having 07 taillights installed… but that would require another BCM battle that I didn’t want to deal with. But that would be true oem-style and could be removed (even though there isn't a need to remove).
