Engine Burn In?? (First Time Poster)

First I'd like to say, love the website and all the info I've gathered. Although this is my first post I've learned alot about my car and am even more excited about my decision to purchase a G35.

For those curious I bought the G35 Platinum/Graphite with Nav, Premium, Sport, Aero-body kit + spoiler and whatever else goodies they can throw in.

My actual question is reference to the burn in period. I've put about 400 miles on the car and the manual states I have to wait till about 1200 before I can do, well pretty much anything, but yet the dealer says you can do anything just don't test the RPM's and see how often you can redline. They said do normal driving without having a heavy foot until the engine burns itself in which is first 1000 or so.

Does anyone know what the average mileage is before its ok to start testing the torque on the car and using it to based on its design.

Do you recommend I take it easy and keep it low-key until the 1200 mile mark (So far I've been taken it very easy).

Any help would be great!! thanks...

Re: Engine Burn In?? (First Time Poster)

There have been numerous discussions about this and the answers are varied. The owner’s manual is vague and everyone interprets it differently. I would say stay away from redline and keep from using your cruise control for the first 1200 miles and I think your G will survive. (Vague enough answer???)

Be careful if you drive in manual shift mode. I have read a couple of posts where they accidentally left their G in manual shift mode and redlined.

Oh yea, welcome and enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the board and congratz on your G..
one tip: same as above, the manual shift mode is kinda slow to shift.. so dont push it up when it should shift, do it a couple of seconds before or you will redline (happened to me a few times).. also, if you see a puddle ahead, dont turn off your vcd and make a right turn in the puddle.. LOL

Re: Engine Burn In?? (First Time Poster)

Hmm The accidnet happened on 2/10.... the insurance diddnt approve the repairs until 2/14.. So they have had since 2/14 to get the car parts ordered and assembled... 10 days so far... I got an update from my dad. He spoke with the supervisor of the actual service center of the dealership and he said that they are awaiting parts from Japan and dont have an exact date on when they will recieve them. Im hoping its sooner than later though...

as for the loaner.. im under 21 so they won't check out a loaner vehicle for me

Re: Engine Burn In?? (First Time Poster)

That's one thing about Infiniti that I don't appreciate. They seem to have a rather disorganized shipping arrangement. They order stuff, and it eventually shows up, and that's about all they know. It took them a month to get in the Bose head unit to fix my jammed CD player. Plus, they said I'd get my cd's back about a week after that, and that was on the 7th of this month. Haven't heard from them.

Hang in there pesti, the parts do arrive... eventually. Of course, you may be old enough to get a loaner before you get your car back.

Re: Engine Burn In?? (First Time Poster)

Better to have it fixed right than fixed fast, though.
