Manumatic... will daily use shorten tranny life?

I have a 5AT sedan and use the manumatic every single time I drive my G, so much so that I started leaving the tranny in manumatic mode at all times (sideways shift is too clunky). So I'm wondering, by using this feature as much as I do, what consequences might I face in the future?

Does anyone have any thoughts? Do you use manumatic mode as often as I do?

I honestly don't think anyone does the manumatic driving like I do, like seriously though. I drive safe and careful but always punching it eveyr minute in the G haha, you know what? I dont care.. Its a leased car!! Thats my point of view though, I doubt anything bad will happen, why would it be a feature? i downshift and do everything in it with that. All I can say is, continue to use it and HAVE FUN !! iLLG

I'm no expert but I'd think using the Manumatic wouldn't hurt tranny life, but could negatively affect engine life due to leaving it in a gear longer before shifting, not shifting at redline and bouncing off the rev limiter, etc.

There may be some shortening of life due to wear and tear... but I don't think you're going to drop it's life expectancy significantly. It should still churn well past 100k with no problems.

I think iLLG35 is the number one reason not to buy a used car!

I'm a little concerned because my goal is to hit 200-250K miles before replacing the G. My '96 Altima lasted well past 170K, but I drove granny style most of the time; I'm have much more fun (read: aggressive) in the G.

BTW, although I downshift a lot, I hardly ever rev it up to redline.

every shift is redline for me hahaha.. That's what I get for getting an auto 3 weeks before a 6 speed came out, I gotta drive like its stick NOW HAHA.. No, I take care of my car really well. My interior is like i just took it home from the dealer. i speed but i dont beat on it to hurt the engine in any way, I know how and when do drive hard. Of course I was exagerating on how I drive by the first post. I do leave it in manumatic mode MOST of the time except the winter. Nothing will happen by driving in it and I hope someone gets my car used, everything about it is immaculate and I tace care of the engine. iLLG.. Im just breaking it in for the next person haha

I'm stuck on the manumatic mode also. I came from 20 years with a stick. I miss it, so this gives me a little more control of the shift points plus I can hear the engine without going WOT.
What do you guys find is the most used shift point? I tend to let it rev to 3-4k before forcing the next shift. I hope this is ok for the engine. Do you think this will decrease or increase my gas mileage? I feel the car is spending more time in the peak of its HP bandwidth, producing more power than in the low revs.
Am I wrong?

I take it up to 4-5 in normal driving, but shift right before redline when punching it!! I got the shifting down from 1st to 2ns, it use to bounce off the rev limiter after the Injen Intake install because of the power boost going into next gear. So now I shift from 1-2 at about 6k, 2-3 about 6.5 and the rest up to 7.. iLLG

Yes, daily use of your transmission WILL shorten it's life. However, it ain't much fun to own a G35 that ya leave PARKED all the time!
