Didn't switch gears. Just felt like it slipped out and re engaged. I had the dealership check the car out when i bought it but they missed a ton of stuff (like the broken brake caliper bolt on R Rear & the rusted solid guide bolts on the L rear calipers, front R strut blown, etc...) so i pretty much do lots of research and take to where i know the work will get done right.
When i get home tonight I'll check the fluid to determine what and where its at (color, smell, & level). From there I'll likely just get it changed because i have no idea when the previous owner had it fine (if ever).
I'll update the thread for those who have similar experiences.
update 8-21-13
Checked the transmission fluid. It's new, clear without burnt smell. I will say that it is a little over full. I tried a test on the gasoline. I started using Shell Gasoline for the last few fill-ups and it's running smooth.
The "stuttering " happens on occasion but forcing the gas pedal down pushed the transmission into the next gear. I'm still looking into the actual cause as I'm not comfortable with a touchy tranny.

Fluids and the like have nothing to do with your issue. Like I said there is a TSO on our cars for the Auto transmission. https://g35driver.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=79051

Question

Good thread everyone.

I have a question pertaining to my 06 Sedan AT.

I've driven a friends 05 AT and it's a little smoother than mine is in tiptronic mode. Overall his car was just better maintained when he bought it. We both bought them used. Mine has about 35K less miles on it.

If the AT is a little rougher, should I just go ahead with a fluid change? I really doubt it's ever been done. Would that typically make shifting a little smoother?

Thanks everyone!

Burnt red or black is not a good sign.
Until something fails, even the Dealership is guessing. You gave me the clue when you said "the engine and trans are fully mated" which makes more sense now...

Since this posting I've done a few things. The one thing that made the biggest difference: Replaced the Camshaft Positioning Sensor. Once this piece was replaced the whole machine just clicked. I made the mistake of not disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery before I took off the throttle body sensor. (newb mistake not a terrible one.) The issues I had after that were the obvious High Idle. I did the Re-set song and dance about twenty times over the span of a month. The final time worked and I'm very pleased with this car once again.

I have been noticing the following issue on my 2005 5AT

when driving in triptronic (manu-matic) mode, the shift from 2nd to 3rd gear gives a jerk/shudder, not always but I would say 3 out of 5 times. sometimes the same happens for 3rd to 4th shift...but never happens for 1-2 or 4-5.

Anyone else experiences this?

Very common, either shift at a higher rpm point or lower. The 4K shift area seems to thud badly.

Really?? I stumbled upon a thread where somebody said this problem was from a failed stator in torque converter. So I'm wondering if that's the case!

I have a 03 with 141 on it and the transmission runs perfect never had any problems, just did regular maint. on the car at 100k I changed the belts besides that the car has ran perfect until now, it has a weird knock only when im driving at low rpms never in park or netural when reved and never any knocking at idle. But the transmission runs as if brand new.

Not sure why we are still replying to post from 2008, but

mine is at 256,000 miles and still zero transmission problems.

6 speed G35 sedan
To those who have a shudder, try LubeGard, they have an anti-shudder additive that actually works.
