Okay so yesterday was the first day i actually sat down and attempted to take the penny out.. it was easier then i thought.. no the tape didn't work, and not a paper clip, but an eye glass repair kit has those tiny screw drivers, and i got it right under the penny and just lifted it onto its side and took it out with needle nose pliers.

Sorry I didn't see this post before but you could have put some super glue on the eraser side of a pencil and hold it on the penny for 60 seconds.
(I've been there!)

My ashtray wont stay shut either - not sure what the previous owner did to it but it looks like he had it taped shut for awhile. I'd like to be able to shut this and have it stay shut. Anyone know the part name for the assembly?

Paper Clip Fix

Had my ashtray jammed open because a coin had gotten in behind it. I took a straightened paper clip and was able to move the coin....ashtray back to normal but I won't store the coins in it anymore.

On MT cars you can wrap a screwdriver in tape and pry up behind where the shift **** would be while in 4th gear. I'm planning to remove a bunch or this stuff installing my Valeninte One and will probably take pictures. Looks easy from the manual.

Is there a guide anywhere to taking apart the console?
It happen to me, I can't close the ashtray, I use ashtray for loose coins. I'm for sure there's some coins stuck in there so instead of removing the whole ashtray which is hard, I drilled
a hole on the non removable plastic housing and sticka clothes hanger, bent the hanger
and play around to move the coins that's blocking the ashtray when you close it
