2004 Maxima 3.5 SE
Just curious? What's Nissan's marketing strategy concerning the 04 Maxima vs their own G35 Sedan?
The Nissan, if fully loaded is slightly more expensive, has similar power, is bigger, etc, etc.
The Infiniti is RWD, better warranty, similar power, better braking/handing, etc, etc.
(I'll leave int/ext styling out of it)
Who would buy the Maxima knowing the Infiniti is the better deal?? Comments?

I was waiting for some one to ask this question. Their are many faithfull Maxima (old model) owners who will like the new version as opposed to a new model car (G35) that has not been proven to be as reliable. Some people do not like to take risks. The G35 has different styling and may not be viewed as a family sedan to conservative people. The Nissan Altima loosened up many people and prepared them for the new Maxima.
I think Nissan and Infiniti have carefully planned their lineups to fill many niches. The Murano and FX 45 are considered SUVs but are different. Both will appeal to different owners. The Murano is probably more family oriented while the FX45 will have a similar appeal like the G35, sleeker, more aggressive and a little less family oriented.
This is just my own analysis. I am a family man but I wanted something very different, innovative styling with an aggressive stance. The G35 fulfills that need for me.
Finally (my guess) you'll see more kid carseats in Muranos than FX45s. But if I had a FX45, you'd see a kid carseat in it.

I'll knock the maxima...I think it's damn fugly. I have no idea what nissan is doing. Maxima, altima, g35, I35...They are all different but similar enough including price. Maybe they think if they saturate the market with 4 sedans that cover the spectrum of people's taste then they will sell more nissans. guess if they can justify the engineering costs to develop and field 4 designs and make money...they got us all outsmarted. I do have to say if you compare all the sedans out there toyota, lexus, honda, acura, etc nissan/infiniti have the best looking suite out there.

Now that's an interesting mouthful!
I think Infiniti's doing a great job on the styling, but Nissan.. not so much.

the maxima looks decent in person....
I saw one on the freeway couple days ago...
it was about 300 ft behind me so I actually did a stupid thing and slowed down to about 50mph, hoping the maxima would catch up....
for some reason, though, the driver refused to accelerate and just cruised at my pace.... finally went off the highway...
now with my head full of the maxima, I got off the highway and headed straight for the nearest nissan dealer and there it was..... not that back looking, especially the interior... has a distinct look to it....

Speaking as an ex-satisfied Maxima owner, I think the new Maxima is a great family sedan. Do I think it's better looking than the G35? No. Would I choose the new Maxima over the G35 at the same price ? No. The G35 has more distictive styling and in my opinion a conservative but sporty look. The Maxima although a good looking family sedan falls within that catch all category of family sedans. Having driven my G35 through winter on its 4 seasons, I would surely have appreciated the FWD Maxima, however if you like the sporty nature of the G35 drive, the fact that its RWD is a small price to pay in comparason to the Maxima. Besides even the kids at my two boy's elementary school stare at the car in admiration when we drive them in each day.
