Just bought a G35X

I traded my Acura CL-s after almost 4 years. Great car. My new impression with the G35 is great The brakes are super, but sure dust up like the 328i I used to have. The handling is better than the Acura, partly because the G35 is smaller and has AWD. I just hope it is as realiable as my Acura.

Re: Just bought a G35X

As for projects, I am thinking of headers. Which ones to get, anyone? I saw the G35 induction and it looks good, so I don't think I will get a CAI like I did with my Acura. Maybe sway bars only if they will improve the handling. I had Comptech sways on my Acura.

Re: Just bought a G35X

Congrats on the G35. I use to have a CL-S as well. The handling of the G35 is greater in all areas over the CL-S and its not due to AWD, its due to its 52/48 weight distribution, tires out at the corners, and RWD platform. The CL-S stock had terrible handleing, but it could be made better with some springs.

The G35 is actually bigger than the CL-S, at least the Sedan is.

Re: Just bought a G35X

I had planned on putting sways on my "x" based on driving the 5AT. When I got the car I found the suspension changes made by Infiniti, because of the FX front suspension and extra weight elimated the need to change the sways. The biggest improvement you can make in the handling, is getting rid of the crappy Goodyear RSAs and putting on Michelin Pilot Sport A/Ss; huge difference. The second change, is to replace the OEM brake pads with EBC greenstuff (kevlar) pads (front only). No more dust; better brake feel (no grabbiness), and as good or better stopping power. My Audi A4 also came with RSAs and dusty pads, only it took me a couple of years to go with better tires and EBC pads. This time they were waiting in the garage when I took delivery.

Re: Just bought a G35X

Marty, thanks for the tip about Green EBC. Are these pads hard on the rotors? After my horrible experience with the front rotors with my Acura(the only complaint with the Acura), I am scared of semi-matallic pads. I had the Pilot A/S on the Acura and they were the the best tires I've ever had

Re: Just bought a G35X

KingoftheRoad1 - the kevlar pads are easy on rotors; they extend the life of the Audi rotors to 80,000 miles. Unlike the semi-metallics which are bad in cold and wet, the EBCs have a much broader range of excellent friction factor. We had tried semi-metallics on the Audi before the EBCs were available and the third time my wife pulled out of the driveway in cold weather and didn't have any brakes I found the EBC greenstuff pads. The EBC pads (front only) were $67 at:

It took me under an hour to change them; most time spent jacking the car and removing the wheels. Very easy to do.

Re: Just bought a G35X

I would rather spend the money on a good wheel cleaner!

Besides, given the experience most people have has with the G's front brakes and the warranty Infiniti has put in place I wonder if they will blame the EBC pads for anything that goes wrong with the brakes? I would let Infiniti take care of the pads and brakes for now :-)

Re: Just bought a G35X

Payam81 - $35,000 car and then put up with dirty wheels and grabby brakes to save a few hundred dollars over the first 30,000 miles. That doesn't seem to make much sense. People are spend thousands of dollars on everything from different intakes, groundiing kits, suspension parts and aren't changing brake pads and tires, which will result in much more bang for the buck????

Re: Just bought a G35X

Marty, I totally agree with you. When I had my 328i, I couldn't put up with the thick dust so I changed to PBR pads. Besides, constant cleaning with strong wheel cleaners is bound to have corrosive effect on the wheels and brake parts regardless how much you rinse each time. EBC doe not offer rear pads?

KingoftheRoad1 - They didn't offer rear pads a few months ago and tire rack isn't showing them. I would call LTB to see if they're available. I don't think they're needed, because you don't get much dusting from the rear brakes.

Re: Just bought a G35X

Marty hehe :-) well that's what it is, I would rather save my money to spend it on other stuff than on the pads for now. As long as Infiniti will change em, I will take advantage.

Besides my girlfriend already nags enough about how much I spent on the car :-))
