First time getting a radar detector, going to order the Whistler XTR 965 on Monday. I know it's not the best but for under 200 it's getting good reviews. But my question is, where do you plug in the detector for the 05s? Other than the cigeratte charger hole which you would have to drive around with that thing open, where else on the front exist a hole plug charger?

i hardwire mine ... one way to do it is to hardwire it into ur dome light. or run the power wire down the pillar to underthe dash where ignition wire is located. so that way its only on when key is in. n mine is located above next to mirror. better detection n out of the way.

My pockets doesn't go deep. I'm thinking of getting an extension cord specificly for the radar and just find a hole plugger somewhere in the back and do it that way. Use some tape to hidden the wires along the floor of the car.

They should supply you with a short ethernet cable... you can use that to hardwire the thing. If you want a clean install, the Mike's Mount is only $20.

There is only 2 cigeratte chargers in a 05, so used the closest one to the windshield. Is it going to kill you if your ashtray stays open?? It don't kill me

Did a search and StealthCord came up on the forum. Followed the bunny and i came to this video. Anyone tried it? It's powered by the rearview mirror. But is it solely design for certain radar detector and not all?

There might be an extra plug behind the cig lighter you can use.

Getting power from the mirror would be the best method if you can do it. I have my escort 8500 plugged into the mirror and it has worked great. As long as you have the homelink mirror and your radar uses 12VDC (which most do) it should work. There is a switched and a constant 12VDC line going into the mirror that you can tap into. The stealthcords work with Escorts and V1 that have a RJ-11 phone plug on the other end that plugs into the radar. You may have to do some splicing of wires to get yours to work.

actually i already phone a supplier that made a stealth cord specifically for the whistler. It's the same tactic as stealthcord but this has a barrel plugin for the whistler instead of the phone plug adapter used by stealthcord.

Excited, just placed my orders for the detector and cord today. Hopefully it'll be here by the end of the week so i can test it out over the trip next weekend.
