5 sp auto from our early 03s to the 07/08 HR G35

They all have been 5 sp autos. Other than TCM tweaks, are there any significant differences in these autos thoughout the years? (other than the early 03 TCMs being mounted outside and having the older tranny logic).

I test drove a 08 G35 sedan auto. The shifts were WAY firmer and crisp than my early 03. Were alot better than the 05 sedan I drove also.

I'd like to know, too, specifically if it's remotely feasible to retrofit the TCM to get rev-matching on my 03. I presume if it was easy, lots of people would have done it by now and there'd be a DIY.

Correct. I just want to know if the mechanicals are essentially the same(more specifically the valve bodies). If they are, then the shifting firmness is more likely a software difference vs a mechanical one. The rev matching is another interesting feature to consider.

Isn't '08 when they went to the 7-spd auto? Or is that '09?

They will be switching over to the 7sp auto when the G37 sedan is released. Probably as an 09 model.

Jeff- I don't know your answer, but if you're looking for firmer shifts, I'd consider swapping out the Stillen CAI you have for the OEM airbox. Opening up the airbox really does have a way of wrecking shift feel, firmness, and response. I know you have the Borla TD, but when I added the HR y-pipe, the shifting firmness and response improved as well. There's no explanation for it, but it happened. Others report the same.
