New Battery

Just an fyi to anyone out there needing a new battery for their G.

Yesterday I installed a Duralast Gold size 35 in my 2004 sedan. 100% PERFECT fit. Even the hold-down bracket fits this battery EXACTLY as o.e.

I tried to find an optima 35 red top but nobody around here seems to carry it, so I went with the Duralast Gold.

Hint.. When your battery reaches five years old, especially in the deep south, don't screw around and get stranded, JUST REPLACE IT. It is going to die soon.

For some reason the engine didn't want to start after installing the new battery (computer?), but now it lights off virtually instantaneously.

Somebody posted a DIY video on here that was extremely helpful in showing what trim pieces need to be removed and how. I can't find it now to credit the poster, but whoever you are, thanks.

many people choose to find out the hard way that they need a battery.

its just one of those facts of life. because there really isn't a expiration date. most are 3-5 years, but due to variable conditions it can really be 1 day - 15 years... i've learn from first hand but a good number is about 5 years.

In the north, you find out on that first 5 degree morning if you need to change your battery soon. If it cranks over very sluggish and barely starts...new battery time!

Jumping your car when it's cold out is not fun!

Here in the south when the temperature reached 100F try to start the car and the battery BLOWS UP you know it is tiem to replace it. Infiniti came and pick the car from my office because I had to change my "shorts". They told me that have seen that couple more times but they could not point out why. They replace my battery under warranty and off I went. So far so good, I have a new battery.

lmao - yea, blowing up is a good hint. mine failed at 3 years 6 months. OEM batteries require distilled water service. failure to keep up with it or adding impure water will result in shortened battery life. replacements are no-maintenance (for the most part) which means about 5 years.

Just a quick question, are the aftermarket batteries mentioned above lighter than the stock ones? Just wondering if I can get a few pounds off the car since I'm replacing my battery.

not really. if your looking at 1-3lbs yea most are in that range, for the most part i think they are HEAVIER..

there are lightweight batteries out there but they come with a lower CCA and etc. if you want to go into extreme lightweight batteries i've read about people taking the booster box batteries and running those, but those require a jump every now and then.

I don't know much about batteries, but see the Duralast gold 35 and 24f for the G35. The only difference is the 35 has 640 cold cranking amps and the 24f has 750 cold cranking amps. Would I notice a difference in the cold cranking amps or are they basically the same? They are both the same price $90 with a core.

Cold cranking amps (CCA) is a measurement of the number of amps a battery can deliver at 0 ° F for 30 seconds and not drop below 7.2 volts. So a high CCA battery rating is good especially in cold weather.

so in SOCAL i think not, in my area yes CCA does matter. I think the 35 series, there is another 35- something series as well. i remember when i was shopping for battery for my maxima this came up. You guys put a little too much thought into batteries, in most cases it should just be size and warranty. all the CCA and etc should all be fine across the boards. unless your in alsaka or something extreme and in that case if your driving a RWD G out there... something is wrong with you... =P

Just installed a Duralast Gold last week. Swap took 30 mins.

Pop off tabs on battery cover, remove battery cover, unclip fuse box and tuck, remove postive cable from its 'sleeve' on the metal battery box, remove tie downs. Someone said that you needed to remove a rain tray, but I did it without removing it.
