Re: tcu and ecu reprograms

I just had them re-program the Transmission TCM software in my 2003.5 G35 AT Sedan to 31036-AL004. The old version was AL002.

Don't know of a dealer update to the ECU.

Re: tcu and ecu reprograms

They charged me $60 to reprogram it. I'm sure if you went in with the Technical Service Bulletin in hand and said you had the symptoms described in the bulletin they would do it for free.

Re: tcu and ecu reprograms

Can you please describe the 03.5 after the upgrade? I think my tranny is pretty good after a reset - is it worth doing it anyway?

Re: tcu and ecu reprograms

I think the people who notice the greatest improvement are those who shift their automatic transmissions. If you just put it in drive and roll around like I do, maybe the shifts are a little bit quicker, not a huge difference. But for $60 I wasn’t expecting a night and day difference. This isn’t like the TechnoSquare ECU upgrade where they try to maximize engine performance. This is just an improved version of the firmware controlling your transmission.

It may also be true that the reason I don’t notice a lot of difference is because there isn’t a great deal of difference between my original firmware version AL002 and the new one AL004. If you have the AL000 firmware version, you may notice more of a difference when upgrading to the AL004 firmware.

I had version AL000, and did the upgrade to AL004. To tell the truth, I couldn't feel any difference.

Re: tcu and ecu reprograms

I think the only way to know is with an OBD scanner. I didn't know until I had it reprogrammed.

Re: tcu and ecu reprograms

I'm not sure a regular OBD Scanner will tell you either. It has to be the Consult II or similar.

Re: tcu and ecu reprograms

You can also look on teh TCM itself. Just take the p-side right kickplate off (after taking the door opening bottom liner off. Takes 60 seconds tops! The part # will be on the case
