Not sure where the info that a catch can would help reduce oil consumption issues came from but I am sure that's a bunch of BS. Will it keep your plenum cleaner, yes. Is it pretty cool looking especially with braided lines and cool fittings, yes. Will it keep you from having to add a quart or 2 between oil changes, hell to the no.

Almost any decent auto parts store has them now. It's a kinda "must have" accessory now.

Haha, alright, well if that's not going to work, what do you suggest instead? Thicker oil and bigger filter as well?

New rings. Or new engine. Or buy oil in bulk and consider it part of your fuel budget and refill routine...every time you top off the tank top off the engine too.

Yea, oil has already become a part of my budget and routine, and that's why I was looking for a way to fix it... I feel like there's no point in doing an oil change if I'm basically changing my oil every 2K anyways. You think piston rings will do any good?

Big debate on thicker oil. Some say go to Dino oil and run it at 5w30 others say look to move up to 5w40 or even 10w40 depending on where you are located geographically. The Dino oil's molecules arent as small as the synthetics and tend to not slip past bad rings as much (depending on how shot they are). Thicker synthetic will help to reduce that but synthetics tend to be held in high regard for their mild cleaning over time jargon and additive base. I said before that cleaning an old engine may be no bueno. As for the catch can, just don't go for a vented setup.

Are you guys too young to remember when GM said 1 quart in 800 miles was "within spec"?

Yes lol. Our high and low on the dipstick is 2 quarts tho, so if you check after 500 miles and you see you are in the middle that's a quart down or so I've read.

Well, even if an oil catch can might solve the oil problem, it's worth a shot.

What do you guys think about these ones? From what I've read, ones from eBay are the same as ones you buy in store.

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/UNIVERSAL-BIL.../351741874780?

Any advice would be appreciated

Mounting it will require some jerry rigging but it should do. Is it baffled?

Hmm... I don't think any of those are baffled, but you're right, I should get a baffled one.

What about one of these?

When Car and Driver did the long term test on the E46 M3, they added 14 quarts of oil over the 40,000 mile test.

My '74 Z/28 though...a quart of 60W every 50-60 miles. Had to use non-foulers on the plugs or I'd have to clean at least one plug each way to and from work. Still pulled pretty hard though and I could fog the area for mosquitoes at the same time. When I bought the car, the personalize plates said L88 Z28 so my guess is, based on the car's only option being the Z/28 option, it was bought to race and probably had an L88 427 stuffed in it while the original L82 350 sat in a garage somewhere, only to be put back in when the car was sold.

I would go with the first one and leave it unfiltered. For environmental concerns lol. That and I think leaving it filtered may change the pressure in the crankcase but I could be wrong, can anyone chime in??
