Looking to buy

Hey everyone new here to the forum. Im stuck between an 05 G35 w/22k for 19.2k OTD or an 04 Acura TL w/55k for around the same price OTD. I have the G right now on a 24hr test drive and when i got it home and was looking at it i noticed that the front drivers door and fender had been painted and the rear pass quarter was also painted. I then noticed when you close the door on the rear pass, it doesnt close right like its hanging up on something. What is your opinion on this thing? Should i take the chance and buy it and hope it wasnt wrecked? Or should I go for the TL? BTW the carfax on the G said no accidents. It also has all the service records from the dealer and it was in many times for brake work. Thank you for your time and info, and hope to some day be part of the crew.

Carfax can only report what people input; if someone fixed the car without having the insurance pay for it will not be reported to Carfax.

The G sounds like a better deal than the TL given that it's one year newer and is 33K less mileage (also RWD > FWD, hands-down). If you like the G more than the TL, I would go back to the dealer and work the door misalignment issue into the final negotiation of the deal.

I think you should ditch both and find a solid, not damaged G! It's not like you are getting a super deal on the G, so you should be able to find a better one at that price.

Before we had any G's, I wanted one pretty bad. Had my svt cobra for my fun car, but was trying to talk the wife into trading the family car for a G sedan. She had her sites on a TL. We test drove a new TL and it was OK. I still wanted the G!
So, I saw two very low mileage TL's at our local Infiniti dealer and told the wife.
I was ready to pull the trigger on either TL since it was going to be her car anyway.....
She test drove both and like them, THEN she asked to drive a new 05 G sedan!!!
She took it on the same extended drive as she had taken the TL on.
When we got back, she had determined that the G was the car for her.
I'm blessed to have a wife that DRIVES her car instead of just steers it. Trust me, there is a difference!

Cliffnotes: If you DRIVE your cars, get the G, if you STEER your car....get a Camry, TL ...or whatever.

I would look for another G. There are plenty out there to choose from if you are patient.

Screw the torque steer FWD nonsense you will not enjoy with a TL.

if those 2 cars are your only choice i would ditch the G mainly because of what you said, looks like a repair car and go for the TL, in all aspects i feel the prices are high, but without a location i cant be 100% sure they are high. in a chicago market tho it is VERY HIGH, both cars roughly should be going for 17OTD

There are plenty of 05-06 G Sedans out there for less money. The G you mention has at most 1 year left on it's factory warranty (4 years from it's in-service date). You can probably find a Certified Pre-owned for $19.2K OTD. It will have more miles, but a much longer warranty (6 years from in-service or 100K).

If you don't care about the warranty, then $19.2K is kinda high, especially when you add in that it's got some body issues. I don't know your tax rate, but at 6%, you're paying a little over $18K for the car itself. Kelly/Edmunds/NADA have it priced around $19K retail, so they're only knocking about $900 off the price.

Personally, I wouldn't buy it because of the unknown damage issues. If you want this one in particular, I'd have them knock at least another $1500-$2000 off the price. It's a buyers market. Get a great deal on this one, or walk away and get a great deal somewhere else.

thank you for everyones response I have decided not to by either. If i would have bought one of them i would be payin around $1000 a mo because i still owe on my truck. So instead i decided to take and start throwing money to my truck to pay it off and then i will go out to look for a brand new car. Again thank you for everyones help and i hope to be a rolling with you guys real soon.

I like the TL my mom bought one brand new in 04 and honestly there is hardly any torque streer on the car. Maybe on a manual there is but i honestly don't know why people always say that. It also does pretty good in the snow. If i was up to me my future wife would of had the 05 TL that was the same price as the G that was sitting next to it but she wanted AWD so oh well. I love the TL interrior as well.
Now don't get me wrong tho I like the G. But the TL can def. handle well so I wouldn't classify it as if you steer drive a G or if you just drive buy a tl cuase thats just not right. I would love to get these two cars on a track and see how they do.....maybe if i can convince my mom to let me take her car to the track I could do a comparison lol. But yeah I love the TL type-S with the 3.9L in it. Oh and the new 09 TL has awd so I'd like to see how that compares to the G as well.

I've had an '04 TL and now my '04 G. I don't know how many times you launched that car but there is massive torque steer off the line on the TL. Honestly, the TL was OK in the snow, but nothing special. Heavier snow was sometimes almost undriveable as compared to the G which I've had no issues in any weather.

As far as comparing both cars, I'd take the G all day any day. The TL is nice and pretty comfortable, but I think the seats are more comfortable in the G. The TL has horrible blind spots that you don't notice until you start driving in traffic, I haven't had anything to complain about with the G. Less squeaks and rattles in the G, less known issues, and I think it's a smoother ride. The fact that you can get both for pretty much the same price, I wouldn't even consider the TL over the G. The only reason I'd consider the TL over the G is if it were thousands cheaper.

Be patient and you'll get a good deal. I ended up getting my '04 this February with the Certified Pre-Owned warranty and 45k miles for $17.5 OTD. You should be able to find a better deal than an '05 without the CPO. Good luck though!

See I have had different results having a lot of seat time in both cars. Yes the G is much better in the snow and of course this is becuase of the AWD but i am just saying the TL does ok. And again i had no problems launching the car i suppose i am use to the tq steer from my crx. As far as noises go the G has more noises then the TL my moms has 70,000 miles on it now and our G has 37,000 and the G makes more noises something with the bushings or something idk.

The TL and the G35 are both excellent cars and have always been distinct competitors. Its sucks Acura made a nice looking car like the TL but decided on a poor powertrain choice. To me the G is more of a drivers car. Honestly FWD sucks, you cant ask the front wheels to do two jobs if you want performance. FWD does NOT automatically equal snowmobile either. My RWD G car with snow tires drives much better than some of FWD cars I've driven in the snow.

For the everyday driver who cares less, FWD is a fine choice. But someone that wants to use the gas through the turns and not have to fight torque and understeer, the G35 is the way to go. From the factory the TL handles decent for a nose heavy sedan. But it cant match up the G's near perfect weight distribution and you cant put an engine behind the front axle in a FWD platform. The 07-08 TL-S, yeah its faster, may put up a better fight in the turns, but I think the G still would be better in the turns, TL in the straights.

The 09 TL redesign, yeah... transversely mounted engine, FWD-biased AWD system, and 4000lbs of weight spells fail all over again. Time to develop a true sports sedan Acura, its almost taking you a quarter of a century for crying out loud.
