Alignment after drop

Ok folks, I am looking for your opinion here, hopefully based on your own experiences.

I ordered a set of Tein H-Techs from a vendor here; got them shipped, brand new for under $200. I have read various opinions on when to get an alignment after the drop. Some say right away, some say wait a couple of weeks for the springs to settle. I'm leaning towards waiting, but am curious to see what you think.

LMK!! Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Peace......

I have an 04 Sedan, I installed the Tein S-Tech which gives a lower drop than the H-Tech, Plus I had to install the rear camber kit and Toe bolts, I waited about a week or two for my car to settle before I went to get my alignment, I wouldn't go any longer than that without getting my alignment done on any kind of suspension mods...

Blue, you do need to wait a week or two for things to settle, but I wouldn't go any longer than that. The front drop according to Tein is 1.4", so you'll definitely have some negative camber in the front, and I'm pretty certain you'll need a kit up front.

The back drop is only 0.7", but my concern with the rear springs is they're too soft. They're progressive, and the final spring rate is only 263, which is much softer than the stock sport springs you have now (342). I think you'd be better off with some unrevised Coupe or Z springs back there. Similar drop (0.5"-1.0") but with a linear spring, and a stock spring rate (both are 342). The 0.7" drop combined with a much softer spring probably means you're going to blow out your rear shocks pretty quickly.

Whatever route you do go, would you be willing to sell your rear sport springs? I think I'm going to do unrevised Coupe's in the front and Sedan Sport's in the back for a 1" F and 0.5" R drop. That'll keep my spring rates basically the same (X has 283/355 F/R, new setup will be 308/342).

The front only drops 1.2

I had mine aligned and it definitely needed it.

I got the 1.4" from Tein's website. Measured drop would of course be different.

Dammit Buck, here I think I've done my homework and you throw this spring rate crap on me.

It's something I didn't consider, so thanks for the shout out. You made some good points. Like 4DGS said, the actual drop seems to be a little less than Tein advertises for the fronts. I know a couple of sedan guys local that have done these springs, and they echoed what 4D brought to the table. Neither of the locals have needed a camber kit up front, and one of them has run the H Techs for over 10,000 miles with just an alignment and no unusual wear.

I can find rear Z or coupe springs pretty cheap on here, so that's an easy option. Whatever I do, I'll be happy to sell you the rear sport springs. PM me what you think is a fair price, and we'll make it happen. I don't know when the stockers will be off, my goal is by the 20th. We have a tech day with our local club that day, and I think they'll be swapped out then.

Thanks for bringing your knowledge to this thread. It made me think a little deeper.

You should be fine with just alignment. Me and my mechanic (good friend) talked about it for a while and we're confident there won't be any problems. I'll let you know if anything start wearing weird. I maybe have 400kms on these springs so far.

How do you like them so far? Your pic on the suspension thread helped me decide which ones to buy. Do you feel the softness in the rear buckeye was talking about?

I think he made some valid points, but it will take time to see those kinds of results. For now I'm sticking with the Tein fronts and considering another option for the rears. I'll put the H Techs on the rear when they come in to experience them. Then will decide where to go from there.

This truly is an addiction.

What I know I learned here, especially reading through this:
https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...uspension.html
and here:
https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...w-updates.html along with another dozen or so threads.

I've got a complete set of unrevised Coupe springs, but I don't need the rears, just the fronts. You need the rears (maybe), so what do you think about a swap? My Coupe rears for your Sedan Sport rears? In theory, you'll be dropped about a ½" in the back, not quite as much as the Tein H's, but you'll have the correct spring rate.

No softness in the back. It actually feels better than stock. A little tighter so it's not as forgiving on bumps but the tightness makes up for it.

I'll try and get a better picture tonight, that photo was taken the day they were installed. They have settled in quite a bit since then.
