"Starting in 2004 a VLSD rear differential was provided with the 6MT."

RWD 5ATs with sport package came with a VLSD, at least the 05-06 did, not sure on 03-04.

check to see if you have red shocks which means you have sport susp. Then i think you should have lsd.

From freshalloy (no guarantees regarding veracity):

2003 G35 sport sedan = no VLSD
2004 G35 sport sedan 6MT =VLSD
2004 G35 sport sedan AT = no VLSD
2005-2006 sport sedan = VLSD (I presume that includes AT)

I have an 06 5AT non sport, but I can still lay down dual strips. Doesn't that mean I have it as well? I've wondered about this since I bought the car.

not always an open diff will lay two patches if you get a break tq going at a good speed if you just brake tq it a bit and then punch it and then look at the marks the right side might be a lot darker which usually = open dif. You can also put the right rear tire in grass and floor it if it keeps spinning and the rpms are shooting to redlline that is a open diff.
