Tips on possible new G35

I'm planning on buying a 2005 G35 and was wondering from some of you forum members is there anything that I need to be concerned about with buying this car?

Every car has their problems, but I want to make sure that I'm going to be buying a car that will last. Most of you have heard the saying "hondas last forever", is that the same way with these cars? I hear they are great, but I just want to make sure I'm not buying a P.O.S. either. It has 42,000 miles on it now. Bare Bones G35. Auto.

Can you guys tell me a few things I may need to fix, upgrade or replace when I buy it?

All of you own these and your tips are like gold to me. Appreciate any help you give. Hope to be a 35 driver soon..

Nobody will tell you this cars a POS on this board. If you wanna hear that, hit up an acura forum.

There are very few problems with these cars, not sure if you plan on getting an 05 6mt (6 speed manual transmission) if so... It's the rev up engine it has the CHANCE of consuming more than usual oil. But not all of them do.

Other than that, some guys have had bearings go in there wheels but that's pretty rare too.

It's a good car and there are plenty of drivers on here that have them with 100+miles. Nothing runs forever, but how longs forever to you?

I really want to make it more show then go, i think its such a beautiful car. The one I am looking at is a Auto tranny. I heard about the oil consumption problem in these, so you say I should be safe then with an Auto Transmission?

Yea with the auto you'll be fine.

Window motors are another thing that tend to go, but that happens a lot more often on coupes than sedans.

The car has quite a bit of go as it is but after about 4 or 5 months you'll start doing performance mods. Go for it man, just make sure you're not paying out the *** for it. Check out the buying/leasing part of the forum with pricing questions. Don't spend too much on it.

appreciate the help. Those are pretty minor things as is. You gotta expect that with buying used anyways..

First mods performance wise will be CAI and exhaust.

Recomment any CAI?

If you read around you will find that the CAI give NO gains just a bad *** sound which... who doesn't love that?

Most guys use the JWT pop charger with the intake tube from a 350Z, you might get a horsepower...

If you want a little more go, get a 5/16" plenum spacer. It's about $250 and will give you probably about 6 or 7 horse at the wheels.

Do the intake mods first. OEM Z-Tube with either a POP charger or just the stock airbox, which is already pretty efficient. Also get a plenum spacer (Motordyne 5/16ths is the best overall, but the 1/2" gives more at the top end). I'd start with just the Z-Tube and spacer. If you're happy with the intake sound, then you can skip the POP. A POP sounds good, but it's susceptible to heatsoak. The Z-Tube and spacer are by far the best bang-for-your-buck mods.

BTW, for reliability, the G is outstanding. Not quite up there with Honda or Toyota, but a solid #3, and a helluva lot more fun to drive.

G35s have issues with the window motors going out as well as the $1200 CD player breaking. Other than that, you'll have 0 problems with your G.

It's not that tough, but you do need an inch-pound torque wrench. Very good instructions come with it.

Yes, from Ohio. Born and raised in Akron, lived in Springfield before college (Miami U) and Cleveland after, but haven't lived there since late '94.

Compression Rods
Warping Valve Covers
Oil Consumption issues with the Rev-ups
Clutch/Flywheel/Trans issues on the 6-spd

Those are also probs to be aware of.

I have had my compression rods replaced at 28K miles. But other than than no probs. Nothing lasts forever, even Honda's had problems. Ask someone with an early 2000's Acura TL how many automatic transmissions they have had in their car.

20K for 42K miles sounds a little steep, I got my 03 for 46K miles for 15K and that's a little high
