BOSE system has an amp and the BOSE sub has its own amp as well.

I replaced all the speakers in the car and have(HAD - stolen recently) subs in the trunk.

Are you sure about this? I swear I read earlier that the stock HU just provides a low voltage signal and the factory amp actually powers all of the speakers.

What did you replace the speakers with? Did you run them off of the factory amp and head unit and if so, did it sound any better?

i was afraid the stock bose sub was amplified. so just replacing the speaker won't make a huge difference if it's not powered by additional juice.

and +100000000 on not wanting to lug around a sub box in the trunk. been there, done that.

I guess the question then is how many watts does the factory amp push. Some of the 8" subs I was looking at earlier run on 35-100 watts RMS. The difference in ohms between Bose and the rest of the world probably comes into play too. I'm pretty sure Bose runs at 1 ohm while everything else is 2, 4 or 8. It's been a while since I've messed with car stereos, but if you put in a 2 ohm I think it would basically cut the wattage in half.

same here. this is the first car i haven't messed w/ the stock system so all my knowledge is way dated haha all i can recall is that the stock bose is like a 200 watt system, if i'm not mistaken.

the 8" jl W1v2 subwoofer fit right in with no mod. i did also install a 200watt amp to power it. it sounds much better than stock. it uses the trunk as a box or free air... im happy the sub cost 100 and i believe if you use the stock amp it would work...

^Which 200 watt amp did you use and how did you run the wiring? I don't suppose you could just use the same cable that connects to the stock Bose amp, can you?

He used a LOC to convert the high's into low and then feed them into an aftermarket amp/sub. This is how mine is done too, no messy wiring to the head unit.
