Brakes Rear Ended on the Highway (I-95)

First, I am ok!

Ok, so I left my college (FAU) at 10:55pm ish and I have to drive to my house down in North Miami. It was 11:30 PM by now. The 5 lane highway had 2 lanes blocked because of construction. Just a few exits away from my house.

So Traffic really slowed up ahead and I slowed down, I was going 5-10mph, I saw the guy who hit me coming at me at a high rate of speed, so I put my foot on the brake as a precaution just in case and.... yea he slammed right into me going 20-30mph, I watch the whole thing happen...thank god I had enough following distance from the guy in front of me and I had my foot already on the brake. I did not hit the person in front of me.

(some blah blah)
I turn off my engine and I just cant believe this happened, put on my hazards and called 911, I heard static for a few sec and then it rang twice and someone answered. Gave them my info, I then pulled off to the side of the road once I was instructed to and waited for FHP and they sent medical just in case since I did not know the status of the guy who hit me. Medical got there in about under 5 minutes and FHP came about 5-6 min after they came. The guy who rear ended me was ok as well.

Both the medical team and the FHP officer were really cool and everything. The guy who hit me was not mad or crazy he just had the " god damn sad face on" and was calm.

His Excuse " Sorry, I looked at my watch for a second and hit you"

He has United Auto as his insurance company which my dad told me is one of the worst companies out there in Florida. (my Dad is a Attorney and he does accident cases, immigration and some other stuff) Since this happened so close to my house he came out and made sure everything went smoothly and that all the needed information was exchanged. The guy who hit me also received a Citation I didn't really give much attention as to what he got cited for.

Cliff's:
Was going 5-10 mph in traffic person who hit me was going 20-30mph
called 911
Police and medical came
Exchanged info
Has bad insurance company
what a headache

PICS:
His Front Left hit my Rear Right.

Car that hit me (56k warning)
My damage (trunk still closes and opens properly)(56k)
More damage(56k)

Do they make custom bumpers for Sedans? Do they cost more then OEM bumper?

PS: I just got home an hour ago from this I hope this is all makes some sense

dont just think, "oh i got hit in the rear all i need is a rear bumper", there's more to it than u think, first and more important, reinforcement bar.
i got hit form the rear about the same speed, the kid was aware of how fast he was going on a local street, bad thing was, he had skin bald tires, bad brakes, and it was raining. i thought, hey rear bumper and paint, never thought the reinforcement bar took the pain and my exhaust was pushed in, got a collision and mechanic place to do all the work for me, cost the other person over few grand.

Yea, I know there can be some rear Fender Damage, and some more non visible damage. I printed out a diagram of every part for the bumper I will need to get it checked out for further damage.

ouch i few your pair man I really do. First of all, you need to bring your car to the insurance, they will inspect your car take pictures or whatnot. Bring it to the shop and they will find out WHAT ELSE needs to be replaced. Obviously from this picture, you see that you need some paint and a new bumper. I thought i had a smashed headlight and a dented bumper, but that cost me 3500 after the shop inspected it so yeah. Good luck

and if its not bent, you can always make sure its bent *wink wink*

Glad your ok and hopefully everything goes with with his insurance company, but then again your dad is like is a attorney, so no worries. Haha. Another FL person who lacks the skills to drive properly on the road.. (To the guy who hit you) :/ .

But anyway, for the rear bumper? I believe there isn't a custom bumper or unless you want to get a 03-04 with a Nismo rear valence on it. Then you can pair it up with Rookie sides and Rookie front as well, if you ever decide.

Let us know the progression, but once again, glad your ok!

Yea, I got hit 3 days after I bought my Navigator. Got T-boned. It looked like a fender and a door.
I have a picture of the truck all marked up where they had to pull under the fender. Looked like a checker board, there are makrs everywhere. Never realized all the little damaged spots under the fender.
Here is one pic of it after it happened and then the pic of where they had to pull.

(The red and Black thing wedged in the crack of the door is the other guys taillight.... It was a 07' Silverado. His rear axle was all jacked up....

He said all the green marks are where it needs to be repaired.

It took 3 months to get the truck back..... It took the insurance company FOREVER to get started. It sat for 2 weeks before even starting.... The guy that hit me was with Allstate and he said I hit him although the police report said he hit me. Allstate eventually admitted fault but I had to get a lawyer, I am about to settle with Allstate for the damages. It been since Nov. 23rd 08'...... My wife's shoulder still pops. She had 1 large and 15 small tares in her right rotator cuff. She was in a lot of pain for a while. I had neck and lower back pain for about 5 months.

i really want to make a joke about allstates stance.... but that's really ****ty. i thought progressive was bad to deal with. they tried to dick me around over less than 3 grand because i went to a non-progressive shop, and you have two people with physical injuries(i had none) in addition to a ton of very intricate repairs to be done... good luck with your G man... to answer your question for when you finally get your payout, yes, they make aftermarket bumpers, i got one after my accident, for what youll get if you want you could get a full Vis nismo kit and slap that on your car... and if your exhuast is bent there are no shortage of vendors here that will step up a deal that will provide an exhaust note youll like.

IMO insurance companies = fraudulent. In so many ways the premium gets increased regardless if you were at fault or not, their promotions sucks, their safe driving discount check goes right back to them ( premium never lowers ), and its just B.S. Its easy for them to lure people in but hard for them to issue money. Snotf, hope all is well with you too..

^as my mom says (she has worked for Allstate as an adjuster for over 30 years) "It is a necessary evil"

Sucks to hear about your car man. The only bumper i know of for the sedan is the nismo rear.

Good luck with the repairs!

Thanks everyone, I am going to go to an Auto body shop today, one of my dads old immigration clients. My dad said he has used him many times and all good work, ill make sure of it.

Only the nismo rear? ah well then I guess Ill just be getting stock back, ok Just wondering.

Since the place I am going to will have the paint and all that stuff already I might as well ask if he could remove the side molding and fill in the holes :O

If the other guy is paying, take it to the best shop in town.

My friend didn't learn this, kept taking his car back to the same guy that half-assed it and now his Murano looks like sh**.
