thanks for comments!
I didn't cruise 120Miles, I just sped up to 120mph for a sec, and I sped down to 60 miles
The police appeared in the back after I reduced the speed to 60 miles.
I guess he was stationary at the time when I sped up to 120miles, kind of unlucky

In most states, if you go to court, you will have court fees ($50-$100) in addition to the fine if you fight the ticket in court. It is possible you could admit to the violation and ask the judge to lower the speed and base the fine on that speed. However, unless you know the judge is lenient it is not worth the risk. If you have not been to traffic school, see if that is an option.

back in march i got pulled over for doing 49 in a 25. i was running late and the road was completely open... even though that's not an excuse. anyway i basically was ****ting bricks for the next few months after i got the ticket and i usually stay 5 mph under the speed limit now. so i put my court date off from march until august and when i went to court, the cop didn't show, but i learned my lesson with out paying the fines.
i am tired.

I was speeding, doing 120 MPH on route 29.
it's a 55 MPH zone.
Fortunately, it wasn't classified as reckless driving..(i thank the police)
But i need to pay $530, it's a pretty large amount of money for me to pay as i am a college student.
Some people recommended for me to plead guilty in court.
I heard that in Maryland (Howard county), if it is your first time and you're under the age of 21 they give you a break. Is it true?
I was wondering.. what if the judge aggravates the penalty.
I'm worried if the judge adds reckless driving and more penalties..
Can it get worse if I go to court?
and that kids has been English 101 for the day, thank you and have a nice dayOriginally Posted by blkonblkGsedan

[/QUOTE]it's pretty funny that you use a motivational poster that makes fun of racist xenophobes who have no real grasp of the english language. make sure you know what you're doing before you try and correct someone else. do you even understand the irony in that poster?
edit: as for the speeding ticket, pay it and consider yourself lucky you didn't go to jail that night.

some tips for next time:
- Always turn the car off and turn on the interior lights (you want to assure the cop are of no threat to him/her and you are not a flight risk)
- Keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times except if otherwise directed by the officer
- I've even heard of people putting their keys on their roof to reinforce that they are in no way a flight risk
- BE POLITE and RESPECTFUL! .. this is very crucial.. cops by nature have to be suspicious and skeptical of everything and everyone; don't be offended that the cop is a d!ck.. being nice is not a part of being a cop.. they need to be intimidating and hold an appearance that they are the authority
- **** i dont suggest this.. but...**** perhaps try to lighten the mood and be funny.. my friend got pulled over while i was in the car and we had a box of krispy kream donuts.. cop pulled us over told my friend what he had pulled him over for and my friend goes "im sorry officer.. i thought maybe you smelt the donuts" cop gave him a dirty look and then busted out laughing... needless to say he let us go and the cop walked away with a donut ********
-Be sure to apologize and never argue with the cop... a pissing match will get you no where
-Ask to see the radar.. most jurisdictions require the officer to clock a car twice and be able to produce the reading by request; however, if the cop denies your request DO NOT argue with him/her.. save the arguments for the court room.
-Plead your case on the spot and vow never to commit said infraction again..
-Apologize again.. and again..
-If all else fails and you get the ticket.. feel free to write the cop a letter of apology.. get on their good side..
-Or try to get the court date postponed as long as possible, you want the cop to forget you and that he/she ever pulled you over.. (helps if you know the clerk)
- Be polite to the judge... remember, what the judge says GOES...

I would definitely agree. Communication could be a crucial key. The more polite you are and the more you show a cop that you are not a flight risk, the better chance you have of them letting you off with a warning. I have a friend who is a cop in Philadelphia and told me that cops are usually easier with those who are aware of what they did wrong and seem like they genuinely are sorry. They are tougher on the people who are mad at the cops for pulling them over...Originally Posted by FRY TWO

Typically, your best bet would be to go to court and then talk to the prosecutor there. Basically, you will plea bargain for a LESSER offense, albeit one with a HIGHER fine.
Its basically a win-win situation. The town/district is happy since they get more money from you (they don't give a hoot about points and insurance premiums or DMV surcharges as they don't get any money from that) and you get reduced points on your license and save money from insurance and DMV surcharges.
Of course, keyword is "typically" here, but the fact you were doing 120mph, they might just want to stick it to you and not agree to any sort of plea bargain.

I live just a few miles south of where you got pulled over. Trust me when I tell you to pay the ticket and count your blessings.

man, you should've known that Route 29 is a speed trap. That's where Howard county's craziest unmarked cars are located. Cars like Dodge neon, 350z, accords, pick-up trucks, SUV, chevy malibu, buicks, chargers, vettes, pontiacs, and even caravans....search in this forum, it's all been spotted on Route 29.
Usually cops will advise you to go to court if they think you'll get a chance in reduced points and fines. Did he mention anything about this? If not, he probably already cut you some slack and not arresting you on the spot for going that fast.

Don't know about Maryland, but in Cali there are no prosecuting attorney's involved in the prosecution of traffic infractions. It is the cop on one side of the table and you (and a liar [lawyer] if you pay for one) on the other side. So you cannot haggle with the cop over the ticket amount, only the judge.Originally Posted by liche

Anyway, OP have you talked to a lawyer about this? I doubt it will be cheap, but it could protect you from losing your license, points on your insurance, etc. Good luck and save speeds like that for the track!
